Modern architectural industrialization makes a large contribution for the development of construction informatization.As one of basic and important technologies in construction informatization,Building Information Modeling(i.e.,BIM)plays a leading role that can effectively improve the degree of information integration for constructional engineering.In China,there have been ten years for the exploration between BIM techniques and2-D technology in CAD,which leads to some traditional cases – for example,Shanghai Center and Qingdao International Airport.According to these projects,it is found that,because of some objective limitations,currently BIM techniques are applied more during the processes of construction and cost,and less in the processes of design and management.Most BIM projects were focused on modeling,collision detection,and drawing update – a CAD-technique-led and BIM-aided model that cannot exploits the advantages of BIM techniques.Based on the background in the extensive use of informatization,it is necessary to optimize the life-cycle application of BIM,including planning,design,construction,and management of an overall project.In terms of design,a forward design process is vital,as it can solve some problems related to the construction informatization of traditional architectural design.However,some issues about software environment,hardware facilities,and technical personal resources,lead to that the construction industry is in urgent need of a technology system to diverse requirements and life-cycle collaboration for each project.Firstly,this research analyzes the traditional process of architectural design to discuss the relationship between forward design and BIM techniques.This part aims to indicate the characteristics of each primary design stage to explore the relationship between BIM-based architectural design methods and the improvement of design quality and work efficiency.Secondly,this research simulates a design process of a practical case to analyze the application effectiveness of BIM techniques,including modeling and performance simulation for related programs.Some key points of these programs are extracted for interoperability and functions to summarize the BIM forward design process based on current platforms and techniques.Meanwhile,to ensure the implementation of this design process,the relationship between models and schemes is discussed to provide solutions for the interaction between the general architectural design and construction drawing of a project.Finally,based on the analysis of practical cases,the feasibility of implementing BIM forward design is verified,in order to raise some strategies for the update of BIM techniques.The research limitations and future work are proposed to provide references for further studies.
