Construction Of Traditional Festivals Knowledge Base Based On Event Modeling

The traditional festivals are an important part of the traditional culture.As a country with long history,vast territory and many ethnic groups,China’s traditional festivals present the colorful folk life and culture of the Chinese people.It’s our duty to study,protect and inherit the traditional festivals for the great historical and humanistic value.At present,there are a lot of unstructured data about traditional festivals’ knowledge in many online encyclopedias,websites or resource library.Most of the Chinese knowledge bases or databases built for traditional festivals are based on general and static information organization methods,which could not reflect the characteristics of traditional festivals perfectly.Besides,the knowledge is not easy to be used for it’s not machine readable.In order to promote the structuration,semantization and openness of the traditional festival domain knowledge,this paper will investigate the strategy based on domain conceptual modeling,database technics and linked-data technics to complete the practice of building knowledge base.This paper’s work is mainly about the following process.First of all,online research and case analysis are carried out.This paper studies the method of domain knowledge conceptual modeling and sorts out the process and distinct strategies for establishing knowledge base that relies on semantic web and linked data technics.Secondly,this paper analyzes the traditional festivals’ classification as well as the knowledge characteristics,and puts forward the idea of modeling the event knowledge of traditional festivals as model’s core entity as the main strategy.Based on the comparison of different reference models in the cultural heritage field,this paper selects the CIDOC-CRM reference model which has event entity as a basic model.By expanding the definition of entities and properties related to the festival domain,it completes the definition of the traditional festival conceptual model.Thirdly,it introduces the features of the knowledge base system driven by Wikibase software and completes the deployment of the service.Finally,the traditional festivals knowledge instances collected from the websites of National Intangible Cultural Heritage List and Baidu Online Encyclopedia get stored in the knowledge base system.Advanced data services due to the knowledge base system such as traditional festival linked-data download and complex knowledge retrieval are demonstrated in the end.This paper has verified the applicability of traditional festival conceptual modeling and has successfully constructed the traditional festival knowledge base.The knowledge base make domain data more structured and hierarchical,which will deeply and stereoscopically reveal the concept and knowledge of traditional festivals.The strategy of building knowledge base relying on linked-data also ensures open access,complex knowledge retrieval and acquisition in the field of traditional festivals information,which is promotive for spreading traditional festival culture or knowledge.
