In recent years, people have become increasingly concerned about the heavy academic workload and excessive exam pressure faced by students, with the arbitrary nature and lack of design awareness in teacher assignments becoming prominent issues. In 2021,the Chinese government issued the "Opinions on Further Reducing the Homework Burden and Extracurricular Training Burden of Students in Compulsory Education"(referred to as the "Double Reduction" policy),aiming to effectively reduce the heavy homework burden on students in compulsory education and improve the quality of homework design. The policy requires the compression of total homework volume, control of time, adjustment of structure, and improvement of quality to enhance homework management methods, enhance the relevance and effectiveness of assignments, and effectively reduce repetitive and mechanical tasks to promote students’ comprehensive development. This study primarily employs literature analysis, survey research, and practical research methods.Firstly, relevant literature was reviewed to clarify concepts and summarize existing research.Secondly, through questionnaire surveys and statistical analysis, the problems in current middle school mathematics homework design were identified.Subsequently,an analysis was conducted by combining literature review and current situation to propose guiding principles for middle school mathematics homework design under the "Double Reduction" policy. Finally, addressing the issues of the lack of design awareness, unreasonable task quantity, unreasonable time allocation, and excessive difficulty in current middle school mathematics homework design, principles and strategies for middle school mathematics homework design under the "Double Reduction" policy were put forward, aiming to cultivate students’ interest in learning and promote their autonomy.Additionally, specific homework design cases were presented to demonstrate the application of the proposed guiding principles and strategies. This paper conducts a survey and research on the current situation of junior high school mathematics homework, and summarizes the principles and strategies for homework design. In conjunction with the theory of autonomous learning, multiple intelligences, and constructivism, this article utilizes literature analysis, questionnaire survey, and case analysis to arrive at the following conclusions: Teachers should collect feedback and suggestions from students on mathematics homework in a timely manner,to make necessary adjustments and improvements to homework,as well as provide timely, accurate, and targeted feedback to students,in order to help them better understand and master math knowledge. Most teachers’ homework designs meet the requirements of education and teaching, and demonstrate good design quality in terms of knowledge coverage, type and quantity of questions.Designing homework with targeted and practical features can meet students’ learning needs. With respect to the current situation of junior high school mathematics homework, using the chapter on "Real numbers" as a case study for homework design is innovative.
