As one of the famous comprehensive universities in the United States,Columbia University occupies an important position in the higher education of the United States and even the world,but currently,domestic scholars lack research on gender issues at Columbia University.Driven by feminism,gender theory has been continuously developed and perfected.Gender issue,as a hot topic widely discussed in academia at home and abroad,provides a new perspective for studying the evolution of education in Columbia University.With Columbia University as the research center,this study uses literature research method,comparative research method,historical research method and case study method to focus on three colleges of Columbia University——Columbia College,Teachers College and Barnard College,and studies their educational evolution from the perspective of gender.This study firstly summarizes the evolution of the organizational structure of Columbia University,sorts out the whole process of the development and evolution of the subordinate colleges of Columbia University,and focuses on the process of establishing the connection between Columbia College,Teachers College,Barnard College and Columbia University.Secondly,three colleges affiliated to Columbia University——Columbia College,Teachers College and Barnard College are selected as cases and defined as single-sex elite boys’ schools,coeducational affiliated colleges and single-sex women’s affiliated colleges from the perspective of gender.In order to clarify the gender differences in the education received by different gender groups in the three colleges,the educational evolution process of the three colleges was analyzed from the three dimensions of gender composition,curriculum and employment resources,and the differences in the educational evolution process of different gender groups were presented.Columbia College has been pursuing single-sex elite male education for a long time.In 1983,it officially began to enroll female students.In the process of education evolution,"the prohibition of women gradually opened up".In the process of education evolution,Teachers College always pursues the coeducation system,insists on providing equal education for both male and female students,and provides inclusive and equal development space for women.Barnard,as a singlesex women’s college,is committed to providing quality undergraduate education to young women,creating a foothold for women at Columbia University.Finally,this paper summarizes the evolution of Columbia University’s education from the perspective of gender and draws some enlightenments based on the current situation of women’s higher education in our country.Although there are various gender differences in the evolution of Columbia University education,women rely on their own efforts to open the door of Columbia University,diverse gender groups have been incorporated into the education system of Columbia University,and gradually formed a diverse,inclusive and non-biased campus environment,which provides a reference for the development of women’s higher education in China.
