| Self-efficacy is the core concept of Bandura’s social cognitive theory, which refers to an individual’s cognitive reflection of what he or she can do in a particular field. As the research continues,Schwarzer et al.suggest that individuals have an overall sense of self-efficacy,aka general self-efficacy,to cope with challenges in a variety of domains.School adjustment refers to the students’ compliance with school norms and obligations, and their positive experiences in interpersonal, academic and activities.School is an important place for young people to study and live.Good school adjustment contributes to the cognitive development and personality perfection of young people.By contrast, poor school adjustment not only brings individual lonely and depressed emotional experience, but also causes the interpersonal association difficulty and the academic decline. Moreover,it will also produce the negative influence to individual future work, the marriage and so on.The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between general self-efficacy and school adjustment, and to intervene junior high school students for 8 weeks through group counseling based on general self-efficacy.This study consists of two parts. The first part is to explore the relationship between general self-efficacy and school adjustment.476 junior high school students in Beijing were tested with the general self-efficacy scale(revised by Wang Cai-Kang)and the school adjustment questionnaire for junior high school students(compiled by Chyna). The second part focuses on group psychological counseling activities with the theme of general self-efficacy.A total of 50 first-year students participated:25 students in the experimental group received group psychological counseling for eight times, and 25 students in the control group did not receive any intervention.Through the analysis of pre-and post-test data, the effectiveness of group psychological counseling in improving junior high school students’ general self-efficacy and school adaptation was discussed. This study draws the following conclusions:(1)The general self-efficacy of junior high school students is significantly different in gender, and the general self-efficacy of boys is significantly higher than that of girls. There is no significant difference due to grades or whether they are only children.(2)Junior high school students adapt well to school, peer relationship is the best in terms of dimensions, academic adaptation is the worst. There are gender differences in school adjustment:girls are significantly higher than boys in the dimension of routine adjustment. And there is no significant difference in grades and whether they are only children.(3)The general self-efficacy of junior high school students has significant positive correlations with the total score and each dimension of school adjustment.(4)Group psychological counseling with the theme of general self-efficacy has certain effectiveness, and can enhance students’ general self-efficacy,thereby improving their school adjustment level. |
