| The evolution of shared accommodation platforms is the inevitable path for the short-term survival and sustainable development of the shared accommodation platform ecosystem.However,the VUCA(volatility,uncertainty,complexity,ambiguity)characteristics of the overall external environment cause the special vulnerability of the ecosystem of shared accommodation platform,which seriously hinders the evolution of shared accommodation platform.The existing platform market structure and platform governance can no longer fully cope with the impact,and the platform evolution process is seriously disturbed.Digital resilience refers to the ability to design,deploy,and use information systems to quickly recover from or adjust to major disruptions from major shocks.Platforms with good digital resilience could respond quickly to shocks and adapt to new environments.Therefore,building digital resilience is of unique significance to the evolution of shared accommodation platforms.It may not only help shared accommodation platforms overcome difficulties,but also make them grow against the trend.Digital resilience is an emerging concept,and the effect of digital resilience on the evolution of shared accommodation platforms is still unclear in the academic field.At the same time,digital resilience is different from traditional resilience,and there is still a big challenge for shared accommodation platforms to make use of digital resilience,which results in insufficient application of digital resilience in practice.In addition,the evolution of shared accommodation platform is characterized by the micro-and macro-complexity,as well as the self-adaptation of micro individuals in the turbulent environment.Prior studies are mostly based on some single perspective,resulting in the complexity of shared accommodation platform evolution is explored insufficiently.Therefore,integrating the complex adaptive system(CAS)and contextual ambidexterity theory,this study explores the coupling effect of digital resilience on the evolution of shared accommodation platforms.It is divided into the following three aspects:First,this paper identifies the core micro elements in the VUCA situation based on the theory of CAS and contextual ambidexterity,and develops an evolutionary framework of shared accommodation platform ecosystem.Second,this paper conducts in-depth interviews with a total of 13 landlords and tenants of shared accommodation platforms,which identifies different manifestations of digital resilience on the platform and coupling effect of digital resilience on the evolution of the platform.It provides us with practical support and basis for the theoretical framework.Third,this article takes the shared accommodation platform in the context of the epidemic as the research object,conducts a questionnaire survey on 139 shared accommodation platform landlords,uses the fsQCA method to analyze the data obtained,and derives the long-term and short-term evolution of the platform with digital resilience as the core.The results indicate that there are two configurations for short-term evolution results of the platform and four for short-term evolution results of the platform.This step also further provides data support for the interaction of micro agents and the emergence of macro results in the theoretical framework of shared accommodation platform evolution.There are three theoretical implications of this paper.First,integrating the CAS theory and contextual ambidexterity theory,this paper develops a theoretical framework of the coupling effect of digital resilience on the evolution of shared accommodation platform in the VUCA context Second,this paper divides the digital resilience into two dimensions,i.e.,operational digital resilience and strategic digital resilience,which could refine digital resilience research under the major outbreak of the epidemic.Finally,based on the configuration perspective and fsQCA,this paper conducts an empirical study on the coupling effect of digital resilience on the evolution of shared accommodation platforms under the background of VUCA,which not only makes up for the deficiency of existing literature on resilience and platform evolution,but also provides realistic and data support for the development of shared accommodation platform evolution framework. |
