The purpose of this paper is to improve high school students’ higher-order thinking through art teaching.Cultivating high quality talents is the key to national innovation and development and human social progress;higher-order thinking refers to higher cognitive ability,which mainly includes problem solving,reasoning and decision making,critical thinking and creative thinking skills.Art teachers should cultivate high school students’ higher-order thinking,students’ interests and thinking skills based on the curriculum reform of the 21 st century,so that students can better adapt to the current and future development.This paper is divided into two parts: a theoretical study and a practical study.In the first part,in the theoretical study,it includes literature review,concept definition and theory overview,and the relationship between higher-order thinking and the art discipline is identified.Through the organization of the literature,this paper finds that there are more research results on higher-order thinking at home and abroad,but the relevant theories and practical cases in the field of art disciplines are rare and have high research value.In the second part,in the practical study,A questionnaire survey was used to investigate the development of higher-order thinking among students in a high school in Hefei;and the art teachers’ awareness of higher-order thinking and cultivation methods is discussed;the problems found in the study are analyzed according to the results of the survey,and the basic principles and strategies for cultivating higher-order thinking are investigated.Finally,the Dunhuang mural art is selected as the course resource for teaching design,and the unit course Exploration and Inheritance-Seeing Dunhuang from Algae Well is developed,and the teaching practice is carried out in Class A,Grade Two,Practice School.After class,the students who participated in the course were tested and analyzed before and after the questionnaire and interviewed online,and the final conclusion was drawn.The interviews revealed that the art teachers interviewed had a strong awareness of cultivating higher-order thinking,but at this stage there are difficulties in cultivating higher-order thinking in the art classroom;the questionnaire survey showed that the higher-order thinking ability of the students interviewed was average and still needed to be improved in general;After the practice of the art unit course,the students who participated in the course were tested before and after the questionnaire,and it was concluded that on the whole,the students’ higher-order thinking was improved.And in the interview,the students all affirmed the course,indicating that this class is of great significance to cultivating high-level thinking.The purpose of this paper is to enrich the theory and practice about higher-order thinking in art courses and to provide some reference for art teachers’ teaching.
