In recent years,China has advocated "building a social governance pattern of common construction, common governance and sharing",and community residents,as one of the main subjects of governance, have increasingly enhanced their status and role in the community governance system, and their participation in community governance has become a hot topic.Community residents’ awareness and ability to participate affect the effect of grassroots community governance. As the main way for community residents to participate in community public affairs, community volunteer activities help community residents cultivate public awareness in the process of activities and enhance their ability to participate while improving their sense of belonging and identity. As the motivation for community residents to participate in community volunteering activities, community residents’ awareness of volunteering activities has a role in influencing their choice of volunteering behavior and participation. Therefore, how social workers can enhance the awareness of community residents’ participation in volunteer activities in the process of fostering community volunteer alliances is the main content of this study.Based on this, this study relied on social workers’ intervention in the incubation process of the B community volunteer coalition to explore the role and role of social workers in residents’ participation in community volunteer activities and the effectiveness of social workers’ intervention.First,a needs assessment was used as a guide to determine the scope of services,i.e.,to consolidate the current volunteers and expand the community volunteer team, thus achieving the purpose of cultivating community residents’ awareness of participating in volunteer activities.Secondly, social workers are guided by self-determination theory to define four service stages: external, intake, identification and integration regulation, and provide an informative environment in the process to continuously promote the internalization of volunteers’ behavioral values and stabilize their motivation for behavioral choices. Finally, through the participant observation method and in-depth interview method, the successful experiences obtained were summarized to provide a referable experience for cultivating similar community residents’ awareness of participating in volunteer activities. The study found that: first, during the intervention process, social workers promote the level of internalization of residents’ external motivation to participate in volunteer services by inputting informative environmental factors to meet residents’ relational needs, competency needs, and belonging needs;second, the internalization of residents’ external motivation to participate has a positive impact on residents’ behavior, process, and outcome of participating in community volunteer services;third, social workers combine self-determination theory with social work Third, social workers combine self-determination theory and social work professional methods to make the cultivation of community residents’ sense of participation in volunteerism operable;Fourth, the cultivation of community residents’ sense of participation in volunteerism is a long-term development process that requires the joint efforts of multiple subjects, such as communities, community social organizations, community residents and social workers,to build a platform for community residents’ extensive participation.
