Suburbanization is an important stage in the process of urbanization.Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, big cities have started the process of suburbanization in the process of urbanization, from the industrial suburb to the housing suburb and then to the comprehensive suburb, reflecting the function of the suburb has changed from single to multiple. The comprehensive suburb means that the suburb built around the quality of life is the form that emerge in the later period of big cities. However, while the urbanization of small cities has not yet deepened, the living suburb that appeared in the later stage of big cities has appeared in the suburbs of small cities, forming the phenomenon of going from the cities to the suburbs for the purpose of vacation, health care and leisure, and becoming a suburban lifestyle that is different from the urban and rural areas. In order to explain this contradiction, this research takes social phenomenon of small city citizens moving from urban to suburban as the research object, adopts qualitative research methods, collects information through field observation and in-depth interviews, and attempts to explain the suburbanization phenomenon in the sense of lifestyle. Therefore, this paper takes the phenomenon of rural tourism driving from city to suburb as the starting point, takes the case of the suburb of Y city in Guangxi as an example, and analyzes the characteristics of suburbanization as a way of life from the spatial attribute and individual activity attribute of the suburb.Guided by the theory of space production, this paper explains the space production basis of the suburbanization of lifestyle in small cities from the three dimensions of system, material and society, and analyzes the formation mechanism of the suburbanization of lifestyle.Through the research,it is found that the unique advantages of economy, culture and location in the suburb of small city are the factors that lead to the suburbanization of lifestyle. The specific performance is as follows: First, the land price in the suburb of small city has laid a very cost-effective consumption level to meet the low consumption needs of the citizen group.Second, the suburb of small city retains good local resources, which can fit the cultural identity of the citizen group.Third, under the dual drive of economy and culture, the accessibility of the suburb of small city makes the practice of entering the suburb from the city a normal life experience. This process has produced a new state of social relations in the suburban space, which is mainly manifested in the strengthening of the sense of ownership of the citizen group.First of all,the cost-effective consumption in the suburb attracts citizen group to join, breaking the original social relationship pattern.Secondly, cultural reproduction constructs symbolic spatial landscapes that provide a good’ localization ’ experience for the citizen group.Suburb has thus become the ’ second residence ’ of the citizen group,so that the citizen group produce ’ natives ’ identity. Finally, the accessibility of spatial distance can better transform the leisure and free suburban life experience into the daily practice of citizen group. Therefore, this paper holds that the suburbanization of small city lifestyle is a social phenomenon formed by the dual drive of economy as exogenous factor and culture as endogenous factor under the support of spatial location. In this sense, with the further development of urbanization and the arrival of an aging society, the suburbs of small cities will become the spaces with development potential in the future, which are the frontiers for people to pursue a better life, rural revitalization and reverse urbanization.
