Urban Suburb Spacial Production And Practice Logic

Chinese suburbs have changed greatly since entering the new century. This change is the reflection of new things in suburbs caused by social changes on macroscopic level. Previous studies tend to take the above mentioned changes as static structural existence, which refers to the entire social facts in social structure. As the daily activities area of residents, how does the space structure in suburban area change? And what is the internal logic of this change? This thesis mainly analyzes the economic, government, and social influence on suburban space and forming the new order by introducing space perspective when examining the process of changes in suburban social structure. Trough the analysis of economic system and government policy, the author here describe the functional mechanism of economic strength and government forces in the process of suburban space production. In regard to the role of social forces in forming the new space order, the author starts from the space internal subject practice, analyzes molding process of big events and structural strength on the subject as well as the reaction of subject against this "shaping process".The first part is introduction which mainly illustrates the social differences appeared everyone caused by social changes, especially in suburbs. How to record and describe such a changing process, and make an analytical interpretation from sociological perspective. And how to make a reasonable explanation of these changes related to so many social factors. These questions pave the way for the introduction of space perspective. In the literary review, through the development of space theory, the author review the space theory from the form to the essence, from the center to the edge. Especially the space theories of Lefebvre and Soja have a significant influence on this thesis, "the new space production will definitely follow the change of the way of production. In regard to the relationship between space and behavior, Lefebvre regards them as mutual reconstruction. Space influences and shapes behavior, meanwhile people out of needs change the space structure, which in turn construct the space." This space practice theory runs through this thesis. On the study of urban and suburban areas, Chinese urban researchers still focus on the space representation and representational space determined by the structural factors, holding a negative reaction towards their way of production. The researchers are mainly concentrated in the second space, neglecting the first and third space. This thesis tries to interpret how to involve in space production via subject practice.The second part presents respectively the way of local government power, economic strength and social forces to produce the suburban area in the process of social transformation and change. Through the analysis of government policy, economic system and intermediary organizations, the author here describes the functional mechanism of government power, economic strength and social forces in the process of suburban space production. Different practice subjects choose different representations according to the knowledge they already have, or define their identities, or produce physical practice. Their practice activities collide with each other in the suburban space, and then produce the new order in suburbs.The third part is analysis and discussion. Objective is to introduce the theory--the production of space to explain the production process of urban space, you can get rid of structuralism in the suburbs as structural integrity of the social facts of the solidification of the vision. By analyzing the economy, how the government and the social forces acting on the (suburban) space to discuss in any society, any mode of production, will produce its own space for practice. Production of space in the new power generation only, and the practice of self-awareness and action of the main ways the new changes will also occur, which is bound to produce in line with its own logic of space...
