This report is about a study conducted about the role of effective Communication in resolving and avoiding conflicts in Makerere University and Makerere University Business school aimed at identifying;sources of conflicts;the role of effective communication in resolving Conflicts as well as finding the best practices in avoiding and resolving conflicts at Makerere University Business School and Makerere University and Makerere University.According to the data collected from staff at Makerere University and Makerere University Business School regarding the role of effective communication in conflict avoidance and resolution reveals several significant conclusions: The respondents included more males than females,highlighting gender disparities within both institutions;The workforce at both institutions is predominantly composed of employees with first degrees,while a substantial number also hold Master’s and Ph D degrees.This suggests a need for more employee training and development to enhance the institutions’ workforce;Conflicts exist in both academic institutions due to communication issues,structural factors,and personal behaviours;Conflicts are resolved through compromise,avoidance,collaboration,accommodation,and effective communication.Management in both universities responds to staff grievances promptly.It was also noted that Effective communication plays a crucial role in successfully resolving and managing conflicts within academic institutions.It contributes to a harmonious and peaceful work environment,ultimately leading to the achievement of organizational goals.It was recommended that Management should identify and address the root causes of conflicts before attempting to resolve them,establish a centralized body to promptly handle employee complaints.This reduces the likelihood of conflicts arising from unaddressed grievances.
