“Enterprise Financial Accounting” is one of the core courses for accounting majors in secondary schools and has strong applicability. At present, most teachers adopt traditional teaching methods to this course, which leads to students’ low motivation to learn and weak motivation to learn. Therefore, how to improve students’ interest in the course of“Enterprise Financial Accounting” and stimulate students’ learning motivation is a problem that secondary accounting teachers need to solve urgently. The ARCS model of motivation is made up of four motivational elements, namely attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction.Specifically,it refers to attracting students’ attention, allowing them to establish relevance to knowledge, and then building confidence and thus satisfaction from the learning activities.Based on the ARCS motivation model, this study explores teaching strategies that can motivate secondary school students based on the characteristics of the course content. The main research work of the thesis is as follows.Firstly, the author compares and analyses the current status of domestic and international research on the ARCS motivation model, shows the significance and value of this study, elaborates on the components and application steps of the ARCS motivation model, and introduces the theoretical basis on which this study is based. These relevant studies provide theoretical support for the motivation strategy design, instructional design and teaching implementation.Secondly, the author used a questionnaire to survey students in the senior year of accounting in Secondary School C.The four dimensions of attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction were used to understand students’ motivation in the course of “Enterprise Financial Accounting”.The analysis found that the motivation levels of all four dimensions had a greater room for increase, especially the two dimensions of attention and confidence. In order to fully understand the students’ motivation, classroom observation was also used to analyse the current situation of teachers’ teaching in the course. Finally, the findings of the questionnaire and classroom observations were summarised and analysed to outline the motivation problems of the students and the problems of the teaching.Thirdly, based on the characteristics of the ARCS motivation model and the general principles of teaching, the principles to be followed in designing motivation strategies are proposed. On this basis, the four elements of motivation and the corresponding 12 subdimensions are combined with the characteristics of the teaching content and the findings of the survey to design a motivation strategy that best suits the teaching situation of “Enterprise Financial Accounting”.In order to deepen the study of accounting teaching based on the ARCS motivation model, the author selects the case study of "bank deposit clearance" as the instructional design, and elaborates on the specific teaching process,so as to lay the foundation for the smooth implementation of teaching. The results of the study show that the ARCS motivation model is valuable in the teaching of “Enterprise Financial Accounting”,not only helping students to increase their interest in learning and develop their problem solving skills, but also strengthening their selfconfidence and gaining a sense of satisfaction in learning.
