At present, our country has entered the stage of the rapid development of population aging. The strong coming of population aging brings great challenges to economic development and social governance. In order to cope with the challenge of aging population, the Party and the government have taken developing education for the elderly and building universities for the elderly as important policy measures. With the further development of "white-hair wave",more and more elderly people begin to pay attention to the study and improvement of spiritual culture, which puts forward a higher requirement for the supply and service level of the elderly education in our country. However, because for a long time, the development of school running of the old university is mainly based on the government, the rapid expansion of the demand of current old learning causes the situation that the old university appears short of supply. In view of this,it is particularly important to explore the diversified development mode of senior universities.Symbiosis theory proposes that organizations can achieve harmonious coexistence through resource dependence and energy transfer, which is conducive to the coordinated development of multiple subjects. Therefore, based on the symbiosis theory, this paper analyzes and discusses the symbiosis evolution mode formed by S University for the elderly and related social organizations, and then analyzes the driving forces and hindrance factors for related organizations to participate in S University for the elderly.and finally proposes an optimisation path for the harmonious symbiotic development of the university and social organisations.Firstly, this paper uses the literature analysis method to expound the symbiosis theory, the concepts and development history of senior education and senior university, and uses the symbiosis theory as the basis to build an analytical framework for the synergistic development of senior university and social organisations. At the same time, using the semi-structured interview method,S University for the Aged, which is privately funded, was selected as a case study to understand the mode of cooperation and the current situation of its synergistic development with relevant social organisations, and to clarify the synergistic subjects involved in S University for the Aged,i.e.mainly the community, enterprises, schools and hospitals, etc.Secondly, using the hierarchical analysis method, the driving force and hindering factors of social organisations’ participation in the construction of S University for the Aged were analysed in depth. The driving force is an important driving factor for the synergistic development of the university, which mainly includes the driving force of interests, social appeal and government leadership. Finally, according to the existing problems of the synergistic development of S senior colleges, the path of harmonious symbiosis between senior colleges and social organisations is explored in three dimensions, namely, enriching symbiotic units and stimulating multi-directional attention;optimising the symbiotic mode and increasing coordination;improving the symbiotic environment and enhancing the coordination. The study also explores how to improve the symbiotic environment and create a favourable atmosphere.Through an in-depth study of the University, the thesis draws the following three conclusions: firstly, the era of relying solely on government power to build the University no longer exists, and the diversified learning needs of contemporary elderly groups require the active support of social power;secondly, the participation of social organisations helps to improve the current situation of insufficient supply of resources for elderly education in China, and is a powerful supplement to the development of the University;thirdly, achieving a symbiotic and win-win situation is the key to the development of the University and social organisations.Thirdly, the ultimate goal of collaboration between universities and social organisations is to achieve a win-win situation, and the path of collaborative development must be based on the dependence on resources and mutual needs of both parties.
