With the rapid development of China’s economy, the problem of income imbalance has become increasingly prominent.Data show that the current stock of urban subsistence families is large, and the plight of subsistence families is often directly related to the illness of their family members in addition to economic factors.Multiple factors such as poverty, disease and derived social discrimination can easily lead to psychological problems such as low self-esteem and social fear among children living in this environment.According to existing studies, the negative effects of inferiority can have both physical and psychological effects on children, and the negative effects persist into adulthood. Therefore, the early intervention of this group becomes more and more necessary. This study mainly carried out field investigation and research on the children of the subsistence families in W community of Wuhan city through observation and semi-structured interview.Based on existing research literature and comprehensive analysis of the results of needs assessment of children from low-income families, this study adopted Adler therapy combined with group work to design interventional activities. In strict accordance with the logical design of the four-step Adler therapy, the activity carried out a total of 6 activities, aiming to help children from subsistence families alleviate their inferiority complex through the support of Adler theory and standardized practical intervention, alleviate the negative impact caused by children’s long-term inferiority complex, and explore the effectiveness of the therapy’s intervention in children from subsistence families. The evaluation after the intervention activities showed that some of the involved children were relieved in multiple indicators of low self-esteem,such as social confidence and self-esteem,and the average values of the five indicators of low self-esteem of the six participants in the group were significantly decreased, which was in line with the expected goal of Adler therapy and also provided a practical sample for the application of Adler therapy in the field of social work.Of course, limited by the length of practice and difficulty of practical operation, this study also has some problems, including the lack of follow-up tracking and feedback, the inability to rule out the pollution of pre-test data, and the lack of control group. |
