In the era of rapid information development, the global demand for comprehensive and innovative talents is increasingly emerging, placing higher demands on citizens’ scientific literacy. In the meeting,General Secretary Xi emphasized,in the double reduction of education,we should do a good job in the addition of science education, promote interdisciplinary integration and interdisciplinary research. The "Compulsory Education Science Curriculum Standards(2022 Edition)" has emphasized the cultivation of students’ core literacy, set up interdisciplinary theme activities, and promoted the comprehensive implementation of the curriculum. As one of the important ways of interdisciplinary integration and interdisciplinary learning,STEM education is conducive to promoting the improvement of students’ core literacy and the cultivation of comprehensive innovative talents in China. In recent years, with the introduction of new textbooks for primary school science, more STEM concepts have been integrated into the curriculum. However,in the process of teaching practice, there are some problems in the STEM curriculum of primary school science, such as the separation of teaching content from textbook content and the inconsistency of teaching progress, which increase the academic burden of students. Therefore,in order to solve the problem of primary school science STEM curriculum teaching, based on the teaching materials, the STEM curriculum development model was constructed, and teaching cases were developed and implemented by the author,in order to enhance the integrity and coherence of STEM curriculum learning in primary school science, reduce the burden on students, and provide reference for front-line teachers to develop STEM curriculum."constructivism learning theory","STEAM education theory","curriculum development theory",and "plate tectonic theory" were used as the theoretical support of research. The methods of literature research, case analysis, experimental research and questionnaire survey were adopted.Firstly, the reasons for the topic selection of the research were expounded, and by reading and combing the relevant literature, the research status of STEM education at home and abroad was deeply analyzed.Secondly, the research purpose and significance, methods and ideas of this study were stated, and the concepts of "STEM education","STEM curriculum" and "STEM curriculum development" were defined. Then,STEM curriculum development model based on science textbooks for higher grades in primary schools was constructed, the model was roughly divided into four parts, which were the selection of curriculum content, the establishment of curriculum objectives, the design of curriculum teaching, and the evaluation of curriculum learning. The relevant process design was carried out for each part, and the specific content of each part of the development model was elaborated in detail, and the principles and strategies of curriculum development suitable for the model were analyzed.Next, combined with the curriculum model, three specific cases of "Homemade White Gum","Lighthouse" and "If the Earth Stopped Turning" were developed, and some teaching suggestions were put forward for the problems in case teaching. Finally, after the teaching practice, the change of students’ scientific learning attitude and the cultivation of scientific inquiry ability were analyzed, and the effectiveness and feasibility of the course implementation were tested. The research results showed that the STEM course teaching based on science textbooks for higher grades in primary schools has better teaching effect. It has a certain role in promoting the change of students’ learning attitude in STEM curriculum, and can effectively improve students’ STEM scientific inquiry ability, and the teaching problems of STEM course in primary school science are well solved, which confirmed the effectiveness of curriculum development based on textbooks.
