With the development of China’s social economy,people’s material living standards are also improving.The increase of economic income makes it common for students from ordinary families to study abroad and attend international schools.In recent years,as an international school that can broaden the international vision of local students,promote cultural communication between the East and the west,integrate educational resources and realize complementary advantages,it has developed rapidly in China.By December 2020,there are 907 international schools in China.As a text for teachers to guide students’ cognition and ability development,teaching materials are also a tool for students to learn systematic knowledge,build and improve personality.The quality of teaching materials directly affects the realization of the goal of talent training in schools.Teaching materials play an irreplaceable role in school education.Because international schools adopt foreign curriculum system,they will use overseas teaching materials to varying degrees.The introduction,supervision,selection and use of overseas teaching materials are of great importance,which directly affects the survival and development of international schools.Therefore,it is of great significance to explore these problems.On the basis of literature research,taking four international schools in Changsha,Hunan Province as an example,this paper makes an in-depth investigation on the selection criteria of AP course textbooks,the process of textbook selection,the development of textbook training and the evaluation of textbooks in international schools through questionnaires and on-site interviews,so as to understand the current situation of the selection and use of AP course textbooks in international schools,find out the existing problems and analyze the causes,Provide feasible suggestions,hoping to standardize the selection procedures of teaching materials of international schools,improve the quality of teaching materials and teaching quality of international schools,and promote the healthy development of students.The study found that there are the following problems in the selection of AP course textbooks in international schools: first,the subject of textbook selection is not appropriate;Second,the selection standard of teaching materials is not clear;Third,the selection procedure of teaching materials is not standardized;Fourth,the use of textbook versions is relatively casual;Fifth,the number of teaching materials is insufficient;Sixth,the content of teaching materials is unreasonable.Seventh,the effect of teaching material training is not ideal.The main reasons for the problems are: the policy of textbook selection is unclear;Schools do not pay enough attention to the selection of teaching materials;The selection mechanism of teaching materials is not perfect;The evaluation mechanism of textbook selection is "absent";The teaching material training system is not perfect.The strategies to improve the selection of teaching materials for international schools are as follows: first,clarify the value orientation of access to overseas teaching materials;Second,improve the policies and regulations on the access of overseas teaching materials;Third,improve the understanding of the importance of textbook selection;Fourth,clarify the principles for the selection of overseas teaching materials;Fifth,improve the management system of textbook selection;Sixth,establish a scientific textbook evaluation system;Seventh,respect students’ right to choose teaching materials.
