| The image of teachers refers to the general evaluation and overall impression of teachers by the public.The images of teachers portrayed in films,to some extent,represent the ideal perception of the teaching profession by the society and the public at that time and reflect certain mainstream values.This paper selects 35 influential teacher-related films from the 21 st century to summarize the types of teachers portrayed in Chinese films in the new century,to sort out the history of their changes,and to analyze their contexts of production and influence on reality.Through the organization and analysis of the selected films,the images of teachers in films can be categorized into five types: the light-burner,the rule-follower,the enlightener,the carer,and the alternative.Before 2010,the majority of teachers in educational films were the light-bearers,who were dedicated to their work and had noble qualities of selflessness and dedication.After 2010,the images of teachers in films gradually diversified,not only the serious and old-fashioned ones who follow the rules and prefer exam-oriented education but also the enlightened and caring ones who follow the laws of education,stimulate students’ creative spirit and promote their all-round development,as well as the alternative ones who flirt with and tease the image of teachers.With the development of the times,the image of teachers in films has gradually come down from the altar and become more full-bodied and three-dimensional,while shaping the "humanization" of teachers,but also more professional and diversified.The image of teachers in films is mainly influenced by the policy context,cultural context and market context.The state’s investment in education,especially the support for remote and backward areas,has greatly improved the material conditions of grass-roots education;in the reform of basic education,substitute teachers who are not qualified to teach are dismissed,promoting the professionalization of the teaching force;and by encouraging graduates from higher education institutions to support education in backward areas,fresh blood and advanced educational concepts are injected into the backward areas.Influenced by Confucian culture,the image of teachers portrayed in the film inherited the dedication of the lamp-burners to a certain extent.With the spread of individualism and the development of multiculturalism,the films also show the "humanized" side of teachers,and the image of teachers has become more diversified.With the development of society,the market’s expectations for educational films are constantly changing,and the image of teachers in films is also influenced by market demand.The experiment selected 30 teacher education undergraduates and adopted a single-group pre-post test design to study the real-life influence of teacher images in films in four dimensions: career perception,self-perception,career identity,and intention to teach.The experiment showed that the image of teachers portrayed in the film improved viewers’ self-perception and professional identity.For the analysis of the factors influencing the willingness to teach before and after viewing the film,self-perception and professional identity were the main influencing factors.The relative weight of self-perceptions increased after film viewing.Therefore,comprehensive research in this article has the following reflection and revelation of teachers and managers: Teachers must establish the concept of lifelong learning,continuously enrich themselves,accept new knowledge,establish emotional bonds with students,use love to bare students and education,adhere to teachers with love,adhere to teachers This true image;managers should improve the treatment of teachers,create a teacher’s harmonious working environment,lead the social atmosphere of respecting teachers,and enhance the social image of teachers.Then form a social atmosphere of respecting teachers and improve the appeal of teachers’ profession. |
