Improving the quality of graduate education is an important task in China’s higher education.Under the promotion of policies,focusing on cultivating high-quality,innovative,and high-level composite talents will be the direction of future academic master’s education reform.As an important evaluation indicator of the quality of graduate talent cultivation,there has been a lot of research on the implementation status,problems,selection criteria,graduate ability structure,and influencing factors of the national scholarship policy for graduate students.Few studies have focused on the specific core competencies and growth process of the group of graduate national scholarship recipients.In order to understand the awarding process of graduate national scholarships and demonstrate the exemplary power of outstanding student representatives,this article focuses on two issues: the core competencies and influencing factors of graduate national scholarship recipients.This article takes Three Gorges University as a case study,and takes the winners of the National Scholarship for Graduate Studies in 2021 and 2020 as the research objects.According to the proportion of the number of winners in the college,some of the winners of the National Scholarship were selected to participate in the study.Firstly,conduct a textual analysis of the evaluation criteria for the National Scholarship for Graduate Students at Three Gorges University.Secondly,81 valid questionnaires were collected through questionnaire survey,and the quantitative research was mainly used to explore the influencing factors.The questionnaire consists of five parts,including basic information,mentor guidance,personal academic ability,sense of purpose,and school training.Finally,this paper uses the Grounded theory to explore around the theme of "What is the core competence of graduate national scholarship winners?".Using qualitative analysis software Nvivo12 Plus,key concepts were extracted from the 25 original interview materials collected,by disrupting the interview data and analyzing the data according to the steps of open coding,spindle coding and selective coding,the Grounded theory is formed,and the core competence and influencing factors of the national graduate scholarship winners are obtained.Research has found that the core competencies of the group of graduate national scholarship recipients are manifested as professional competence;Active learning ability;Self-management ability;Adjustment and adaptability.Among them,professional competence and active learning ability are more prominent.There are four factors that affect core competencies: mentor factors,personal factors,environmental factors,and institutional management factors.Personal factors are the fundamental driving force and internal factors for graduate national scholarship recipients,and other factors are important supporting conditions.Among the individual factors,personal factors and mentor factors have the greatest impact on the development of core competencies of graduate national scholarship recipients,reflected through early establishment of personal goals and continuous improvement of scientific research abilities.Based on the above conclusions,this article focuses on the thinking and summary of graduate students themselves,mentor guidance,environmental support and course content.Graduate students themselves should clarify their learning objectives as early as possible during their postgraduate studies.The sense of achievement in graduate studies is closely related to the guidance of their mentors,who should guide students in conducting self-analysis and stimulating their learning motivation.Schools should expand their resources and strive for more platform opportunities for students.In terms of curriculum,they should fully understand students’ needs,implement curriculum tasks,and promote the development of graduate students’ core abilities.
