Objective: Traditional strength training has relatively fixed interval time and number of exercises, but in its middle and later stages,as the supply of phosphagen energy supply system in the body decreases, the quality and speed of athletes’ strength training movements will gradually decline, which affects the training effect.Cluster training adds additional intervals to the traditional strength training schedule, allowing the body to recover in a timely manner during the exercise. It has been shown that cluster training can maintain the speed and power output of movements in strength exercises, but the existing studies still cannot fully prove whether cluster training has advantages for developing strength quality in youth. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of cluster training and traditional strength training on lower limb strength and lower limb muscle hypertrophy in adolescent female judo athletes, and also compared the differences in training effects between the two training methods to provide new training ideas and options for the physical training of adolescent female judo athletes. Methods:This study used the methods of literature review, mathematical statistics and experiment to study 24 adolescent judo athletes from Guangdong Youth Sports School, with the cluster training group as the experimental group(n=12)and the traditional strength training group as the control group(n=12).Both experimental and control groups were trained with 70% 1RM load for squatting(5 sets × 8 repetitions),and the load(40 squat repetitions)and total interval(360s)were the same for both groups, with 90 s interval between groups for the traditional training group and 30 s interval within groups + 60 s interval between groups for the cluster training group,in a randomized controlled experiment with two interventions per week for 8 weeks. The subjective fatigue scale was used to monitor the subjects’ training fatigue. The test training index adopts squat 1RM,CMJ vertical jump(without arm swing)and standing long jump;the body morphology indexes were thigh circumference and lean body mass of lower limbs;the test kinetic indexes were mean speed, mean power, maximum speed and maximum power of the squat.Test data were collected and statistically analyzed using the statistical analysis software jamovi(2.2.5).Results:(1)Both groups showed a decreasing trend in subjective fatigue after the8-week intervention, and the overall subjective fatigue of the training session was lower in the cluster group than in the traditional strength training group(experimental group=14.89±0.91,control group=15.70±0.67).(2)There was a significant difference between the deep squat 1RM scores of subjects in both groups compared with those before training(P < 0.05),and there was no significant difference between the cluster group training group and the traditional strength training group deep squat 1RM after8 weeks of intervention(P = 0.058).(3)In terms of lower limb explosive power, the gains in CMJ(P=0.026)and standing long jump(P=0.014)were better in the cluster group training group than in the traditional training group;deep squat kinetic indexes:mean power(P=0.039),maximum power(P=0.027),mean speed(P<0.001),and maximum speed(P=0.008)in the cluster group training group were all superior to those of the traditional strength training group.(4)In terms of muscle hypertrophy index, there were no significant differences between the two groups in thigh circumference(P=0.784)and lean body mass of lower limbs(P=0.231).Conclusion:(1)Compared with the traditional strength training group, using the same training load and interval time, the fatigue of athletes in the cluster training group was lower, which guaranteed the training effect and reduced the risk of injury.(2)Both cluster group training and traditional strength training groups can effectively improve the maximum strength of the lower limbs, but cluster group training does not have a significant advantage.(3)Cluster training has better kinetic and kinematic performance and better training benefits for lower limb explosive power.Compared to traditional training groups, cluster training groups can maintain higher training speed and higher power output levels, and have better training effects on horizontal and vertical jumping ability.(4)Cluster training and traditional training have similar training effects in improving lower limb circumference and lower limb muscle mass of adolescent female judo athletes, but cluster training does not have significant advantages.
