The General High School Language Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)include "Whole Book Reading and Seminar" as the first of the eighteen task groups, changing the marginalized status of whole book reading, and then the Unified Edition language textbook includes the classical masterpiece "Dream of the Red Chamber" as the whole book reading in the second book of the compulsory high school language, fully reflecting the implementation of the curriculum standards. The value of paying tribute to the classics. The schema theory emphasizes the existing reading cognition of the human brain and the independent construction of students. It is believed that the continuous updating and development of students’ reading schema is the process of deepening the text, accumulating reading experience, mastering reading methods and ensuring the integrity of reading. Therefore, schema theory and whole-book reading have an inherent fit,and can provide a new theoretical perspective for teaching whole-book reading of Dream of the Red Chamber.First,we trace the origin of the schema theory and elaborate its core ideas, consider its significance for the teaching of reading the whole book of Dream of the Red Chamber, and develop the schema of characters, plots, and themes for reading the whole book of Dream of the Red Chamber in combination with the learning situation and text characteristics;second,we understand the current situation of teaching reading the whole book of Dream of the Red Chamber through questionnaire surveys and interviews. The survey found that the teaching of the whole book of Dream of the Red Chamber has single teaching activities at the teacher level, which cannot stimulate reading interest;shallow text interpretation, which tends to be test-taking;and lagging evaluation, which cuts reading motivation. At the level of students, there are problems such as soothing plot, low reading interest;text preparation, hindering reading progress;reading autonomy is not strong, not deep thinking;exam pressure, limited reading time.In response to the above problems, the author proposed the following teaching strategies combined with the schema theory: introduction to stimulate interest, activate and awaken the schema;reading through and discovering, supplement and update the schema;intensive reading and seminar, transfer and apply the schema;display and share, evaluate and consolidate the schema. Finally, four types of lessons, namely introduction, advancement, seminar and demonstration, are developed for teaching the whole book of Dream of the Red Chamber in the context of schema theory. This paper applies the schema theory to the teaching of reading the whole book of Dream of the Red Chamber, aiming to help students improve their reading cognition and their ability to read the whole book,as well as to provide some inspiration and guidance for language teachers to effectively carry out the teaching of reading the whole book of Dream of the Red Chamber. |
