| Adolescence is an important stage in the process of socialization and development of adolescents.Due to the conflicts between physical and mental development and the challenges brought by family, social and other environments, adolescence has become a high incidence period of problem behavior.Problem behavior is an important indicator of whether adolescents have good social adaptability, and exploring the factors and mechanisms that affect problem behavior is of great significance.According to the Ecological system theory and the Family system theory, the family is an important micro system that affects the development of adolescents. This study aims to explore the short-term and long-term effects of parental coparenting and parenting stress on adolescents’ problem behavior,as well as the mediating role of parenting stress, using family environment variables as the starting point, through cross-sectional and longitudinal studies,to reveal the essence of the role of family environment factors on adolescents’ problem behavior. Therefore, based on the summary and analysis of existing literature, based on the Ecological system theory and Family system theory, this study conducted a questionnaire survey with the parents of Chinese adolescents as the subjects, and designed three studies in total.Study 1 selected 215 parents of students from two middle schools in Gansu Province as subjects for a one-year and three-month follow-up study.Cross lagged analysis was used to examine the directly causal relationship between parental coparenting, parenting stress, and adolescents’ problem behavior;Study 2a further selected 884 parents of students from two middle schools in Gansu and Yunnan provinces as subjects, verified whether the coparenting of fathers and mothers has an impact on adolescents’ problem behavior through their own parenting stress;Study 2b selected 106 pairs of parents of students from two middle schools in Gansu and Yunnan provinces as subjects, and based on the cross effects in Family system theory, verified whether parental coparenting has an impact on adolescents’ problem behavior through the parenting stress of spouses. The research results indicate that:(1)Cross lagged analysis found that T1 parental coparenting can significantly predict T2 parenting stress and adolescents’ problem behavior; The T1 parenting stress can significantly predict the T2 adolescents’ problem behavior; The T1 parenting stress can’ t significantly predict the T2 coparenting; The T1 problem behavior can’ t significantly predict the T2 coparenting and parenting stress.(2)Based on the mediating effect analysis of spillover effect,it was found that the coparenting of fathers and mothers can each have an effect on adolescents’ problem behavior through their parenting stress respectively.(3)Based on the mediating effect analysis of cross effect,it was found that mother’s coparenting can affect adolescents’ problem behavior through father’ s parenting stress, while father’ s coparenting can’ t affect adolescents’ problem behavior through mother’s parenting stress.According to the results of longitudinal and cross-sectional studies,it can be found that parental coparenting and parenting stress are important factors affecting adolescents’ problem behavior. The above results indicate that parental coparenting can have an impact on adolescents’ problem behavior by influencing parenting stress. Therefore, parents should establish a positive awareness of coparenting, actively increase coparenting behavior, consciously regulate their parenting stress, improve emotional regulation ability, form positive parenting concepts and methods, create a warm and safe family atmosphere for the development of adolescents, maintain a balance in the family system, fully utilize their parenting functions, and reduce adolescents’ problem behavior among adolescents. In addition, the results of this study provide new perspectives and ideas for relevant researchers and mental health educators to study and intervene in adolescents’ problem behavior. It is necessary to strengthen home school cooperation, provide targeted guidance for parents’ coparenting and parenting stress, and promote the positive development of adolescents. From the perspective of family environment, the paper provides empirical support for the intervention of adolescents’ problem behavior in China, promotes the enrichment of research content in the field of family environment and problem behavior in China, and provides certain insights for family theory education and parents’ daily parenting practice. |
