He Lin is a competent scholar who proficiently masters contemporary Chinese philosophy,history of philosophy,Western philosophy,and translation.His unparalleled insights and remarkable achievements have bestowed upon him a distinguished status in the domain of contemporary Chinese philosophy,elevating him as one of the foremost contemporary scholars.Currently,scholars mainly focus on his philosophical contributions in the areas of "New Confucianism," "New Yangmingism," and cultural perspectives,with little attention paid to his educational thoughts.Despite not having a specialized work on education,He Lin ’ s various articles and writings extensively explore educational content and enlighten readers with philosophical wisdom.Therefore,studying He Lin’s educational thoughts can not only expand the scope of relevant research but also provide insight into the essence of his educational thoughts for educational reform today.This paper systematically studies He Lin’s new Confucian education thought from the perspective of the historical and logical combination of intellectual history.According to He Lin,the cultural maladjustment is the underlying cause of China’s crisis throughout the previous century,and the rejuvenation of Confucianism is the key factor in restoring Chinese culture.In new Confucian education,he explores how to cultivate new talents through education,including learning from Western culture,focusing on practical abilities,emphasizing the combination of morality and technical cultivation,etc.At the same time,new Confucian education thought also focuses on the interaction between education and society,advocating for increased social investment in education,limiting unnecessary political interference in education by political factions,strengthening political propaganda,ensuring academic freedom,etc.,to promote education’s service and support to society.This study believes that He Lin’s new Confucian education thought aims to cultivate "new Confucians," namely people with cultural literacy and noble character,rational thinking,and practical abilities.His educational thoughts not only integrates traditional Confucian thought but also draws on the essence of Western philosophy,including emphasis on freedom and equality,and the emphasis on moral responsibility.However,He Lin’s educational thoughts also has historical limitations,and its application and inheritance in the process of modernization require further exploration and discussion by scholars.
