A Case Study On The Improvement Of Family Resilience Of Children In Distress In Rural Areas

As the basic unit of society and the primary place for children’s life,the family plays a fundamental role in the healthy growth of children.However,in the process of family development,it is faced with a variety of risks and challenges.These risks and challenges sometimes lead to the collapse of family beliefs,structural confusion and communication failure,which further lead to various crises of family members.As a vulnerable group in the family,children are inevitably the first to be affected by the family crisis,resulting in a variety of survival and development problems,and become children in difficulties.Therefore,this paper hopes to make a case work plan for the families of children in distress to improve their resilience and help the families of children in distress to improve their ability to cope with crisis situations.In this paper,the author mainly adopts the method of case work,taking the families of children in distress in S Community,Zhongmou County,Zhengzhou as the research object,through professional social work services to improve the level of family resilience of children in distress.First of all,through the summer camp activities in the distressed Children Project,the author came into contact with 19 children who were in trouble because of family reasons.In the family resilience(FSI)survey of these 19 children in distress,the author found that they had low scores and poor performance in the dimensions of family economic ability,family cohesion,family belief,family communication,social support,problem solving and so on.Therefore,the author selects a more typical of children in distress as the object of case intervention for the author to enhance the resilience of his family.Secondly,this paper draws lessons from Professor Walsh’s theoretical framework of family resilience,and focuses on the construction of family belief system,the optimization of family organization model and the improvement of family communication process.Combined with the theory of family system and the theory of advantage perspective,practical activities are carried out in three stages.The first stage is mainly to urge the families of children in difficulties to look at the crisis rationally,find family advantages and overcome inferiority complex.The second stage is mainly to change the confused roles and division of labor in the families of children in difficulties,to reshape the sense of connection among family members,and to restore the social support of the family.The third stage is mainly to break down the communication barriers of the families of children in difficulties,to establish clear and consistent family information,to promote the frank sharing of emotions among family members and to solve problems cooperatively.Finally,the intervention effect of social workers is evaluated by means of process evaluation and result evaluation.The data of pre-test and post-test and the tracking service of social workers show that social workers have achieved certain results in improving the resilience of the families of children in difficulties.The families of the children in difficulties also gradually overcome the difficulties,gain hope,and have the driving force and confidence for positive development.This paper is a landing and practice under the guidance of Walsh’s family resilience framework,hoping to provide some reference and thinking for the study of social work intervention in the improvement of family resilience of children in difficulties.
