Whether in school or in social situations outside of school, unfair events occur from time to time. These unfair events will not only have a certain impact on middle school students themselves, but also have a certain impact on third parties who have witnessed the unfair events. Therefore, maintaining fairness is very important. In life, there are two main ways that people take actions against unfair events: one is to punish those who cause harm;the other is to compensate those who have been harmed.Punishment and compensation are also regarded as an altruistic behavior. The good personality trait is a stable personality trait that expresses the positive value orientation in the personality.Previous studies have found that good people with kind personality in real life tend to show higher altruistic tendencies and make more online altruistic behaviors. But it’s not clear what kind of fairness-maintaining behaviors individuals with different kindness traits may exhibit when they see unfair behavior and when they themselves suffer from injustice.Experiment 1 adopts the dictator’s version of the third-party punishment and compensation paradigm to examine the impact of different kindness traits on the third-party’s fairness maintenance behavior.According to the scores of ’’The Kindness Personality Questionnaire’’,the subjects were divided into high kindness group and low kindness group. The results showed that when witnessing unfair behavior, people with high kindness tend to choose compensation to maintain fairness and pay more money;while people with low kindness tend to take punishment and non-intervention.Experiment 2 adopts an adapted ultimatum game paradigm to examine the influence of individuals with different kind personality traits on the second-party fairness maintenance behavior.According to the scores of ’’The Kindness Personality Questionnaire’’,the subjects were divided into high kindness group and low kindness group. The results showed that: in the face of favorable and unfair distribution proposals made by the allocator, individuals with low kindness personality trait were more accepting, while individuals with high kindness personality trait were more likely to choose to compensate the proposer. While both punishments and compensations for upholding fairness reflect concerns about fairness, the reputation ratings they receive differ. Therefore,Experiment 3,on the basis of Experiments 1 and 2,examines the influence of third-party and second-party fair maintenance behaviors with different kindness traits on their reputation. The results showed that for third-party fair maintenance behavior, the reputation of compensation is better than the reputation of punishment and non-intervention.For second-party fair maintenance actions, the reputation of compensation was better than the reputation of acceptance. The reputation of fair maintenance behavior of high kindness middle school students was higher than that of low kindness middle school students.Research conclusion: Whether based on the second-party or third-party perspective, middle school students with high kindness personality trait showed more fairness maintenance behaviors than low kindness personality trait individuals. In addition, the reputation of highkindness middle school students is higher than that of low-kindness middle school students.Based on the above research results, the following educational implications are proposed:(1)Pay attention to the kind-hearted ideological education in traditional Chinese culture, and shape the kind-hearted personality of young people.(2)Develop students’ sense of justice and prosocial behaviours, leading to a good reputation.
