Students’ learning engagement status not only represents their level of concentration and effort,but also is an important indicator of their academic achievement,learning process,personal growth,and even the quality of higher education.Therefore,research on middle school students’ learning engagement is necessary.Previous studies have shown that students’ learning engagement is influenced by various factors such as future orientation and achievement goal orientation,but the relationship between these factors has not been fully investigated.Therefore,this study aims to investigate the correlation between these factors and learning engagement in depth,in order to better understand the influence mechanism of learning engagement,and on this basis,to carry out a group counseling with the theme of future orientation on junior high school students’ On this basis,we conducted an intervention study on the future orientation of junior high school students through group counseling.Study 1 used the Future Orientation Questionnaire,the Achievement Goal Orientation Scale,and the Learning Engagement Scale to survey 891 junior high school students to understand their future orientation,achievement goal orientation,and learning engagement,and to explore the relationship between future orientation,learning engagement,and achievement goal orientation.Study 2 used group counseling with the theme of future orientation,and two classes of seventh grade were used as the intervention group and the control group,with 49 students in the intervention group and 43 students in the control group.8 group counseling sessions were conducted for the intervention group,and the control group had normal self-study sessions,and the data were collected from members of both groups before and after the intervention and two months of follow-up data analysis,which were used to test the effectiveness of the intervention.The specific results were as follows.(1)There were significant differences in junior high school students’ future orientations by gender and grade level,achievement goal orientations by grade level,only child,and birthplace,and learning engagement by grade level.(2)Future orientations of junior high school students were significantly and positively correlated with achievement goal orientation and learning engagement,respectively,and achievement goal orientation and learning engagement were significantly and positively correlated.(3)The direct predictive effect of junior high school students’ future orientation on learning engagement was significant,and achievement goal orientation played a partially mediating role between future orientation and learning engagement.(4)After group counseling on future orientation,the difference between the intervention group and the control group was significant,and the scores of the intervention group on future orientation were significantly higher,and their scores on learning engagement were also significantly higher,and the effect was still present in the follow-up test two months later,indicating that the intervention on group counseling on future orientation of junior high school students was effective.Conclusion: The future orientation of junior high school students can directly influence their learning engagement level,and also indirectly influence them through achievement goal orientation,and achievement goal orientation plays a part in mediating between future orientation and learning engagement. |
