The novel is one of the four traditional Chinese literary genres and has a pivotal role in the history of literature.The three elements of fiction include character,plot and setting,and character,as one of them,is self-evidently important.However,there are some problems in character teaching today,such as neglecting students’ individual interpretation and modeling the teaching content.Therefore,in order to improve the quality of character teaching,this article takes the teaching of character in junior high school language modern and contemporary novels as the research object and discusses the implementation strategies of character teaching.Specifically,the article intends to develop the study through the following parts:The first part is an overview of the present and contemporary novel selections in junior high school language as well as the main characterizations.By analyzing six volumes of the Ministry of Education’s junior high school language textbooks,the author summarizes the distribution of modern and contemporary novels in them,and also divides them into traditional novels of vernacular culture,novels with cultural characteristics of the southwest region,and science fiction novels according to their cultural characteristics,and provides an overview of the main characters in them.The second part is junior middle school Chinese contemporary novel character Image Teaching Present Situation Analysis.The author analyzes the questionnaire survey of teachers and students,and then combines his experience of listening to lectures during practice,and finds some good results,with the characteristics of attaching importance to analyzing character quality,attaching importance to emotional edification,however,there are some problems,such as neglecting students’ individual interpretation,lacking of background information and teaching content patterning.The author probes into the causes of the problem of character image teaching from the aspects of teachers and students.The causes of the problem at the level of teachers are that they do not pay attention to the application of new research results and lack of their own ability and accomplishment,the reasons at the student level are the single method of reading the novel,the lack of consciousness of analyzing the character image and the different knowledge of the character image theory.The third part is junior middle school Chinese modern and contemporary novel character image teaching implementation strategy.The author mainly from the image of the character connotation of the multiple interpretation,the image of the various methods of shaping the image of the multiple interpretation of the role of the image of these three aspects.The multi-interpretation of the characters’ characters includes using the method of “Knowing people and discussing the world”to understand the characters,reading the whole book to enhance understanding,reading aloud to feel the characters’ characters,using debates to promote multi-interpretation and using comparative reading to deepen understanding The various methods of characterization include close reading of dialogues,attention to psychological description,attention to natural environment,attention to details and attention to narrative blanks The multiple interpretations of the functional significance of the characters include the promotion of the development of the plot and the reflection of the society or the times.The fourth part is a case study and reflection on teaching characterization in contemporary novels in junior high school language.The author takes Lu Xun’s novel "Hometown" as an example for the teaching design of characterization,and reflects on this teaching design and analyzes its strengths and weaknesses.
