| As a fundamental subject,the application value of mathematics plays a crucial role in teaching and learning.The Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)includes application awareness as one of the core literacies in mathematics and emphasises that the development of application awareness should be integrated throughout the teaching of mathematics.Therefore,in accordance with the requirements of the Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition),the development of application awareness in primary school students has become a key concern for educators.Through investigating the current situation of fourth grade students’ mathematical application awareness,three questions are addressed: 1.the current situation of fourth grade students’ mathematical application awareness.2.the attribution of problems in fourth grade students’ mathematical application awareness.3.the strategies to cultivate fourth grade students’ mathematical application awareness.The thesis first uses literature research,questionnaires,interviews and case studies to investigate the current situation of fourth grade primary school students’ mathematical application awareness.Through the data collected,the current situation of fourth grade primary school students’ mathematical application awareness is summarised: students’ overall mathematical application awareness needs to be strengthened;schools lack targeted training measures for mathematical application awareness;teachers’ implementation of mathematical application awareness teaching The concrete implementation in the teaching of mathematics application awareness is not in place.Secondly,the problems of students’ awareness of mathematics applications in Primary 4 were analysed in three aspects:(1)on the part of students: insufficient knowledge of the holistic nature of knowledge,influenced by the characteristics of cognitive development and affected by age;(2)on the part of schools: a single type of curriculum,influenced by exam-oriented education and insufficient professional training for teachers;(3)on the part of teachers : single type of teaching evaluation,average ability to design assignments and old-fashioned classroom teaching style.Finally,based on the current situation of the survey on the application awareness of mathematics among primary four students and the attribution of the problem,the following strategies are proposed for cultivation: developing students’ overall knowledge of mathematics,carrying out integrated and practical activities,strengthening teachers’ professionalism training,enhancing the assessment methods of the mathematics curriculum,and enriching the forms of mathematics classroom teaching. |
