| The implementation of the Double Reduction policy and the release of the New Curriculum Plan call for the improvement of the quality of primary education and teaching. As the first person in charge of the school, primary school principals shoulder an important mission and responsibility, which is a great test of their education leadership. The New Curriculum Plan,as an important blueprint for the reform of compulsory education, puts forward new requirements for schools and principals.By sorting out and analyzing the domestic and foreign literature,we find that the educational leadership of primary school principals is insufficient in the research field, connotation, content and research methods.Based on this, this paper adopts the research method of educational ethnography, combined with the requirements of the New Curriculum Plan,to explore the current situation of the educational leadership of primary school principals,so as to propose specific strategies to improve the educational leadership of primary school principals,so as to deepen the understanding of the educational leadership of primary school principals. On the basis of existing research,"educational leadership" and "educational leadership of primary school principals" are determined as the core concepts of this study, and "educational leadership of primary school principals" is defined as a resultant force of primary school principals leading school organization members, comprehensively implementing the New Curriculum Plan, and improving the quality of school education and teaching.By learning from Professor Zheng Yanxiang’s Five Dimensional Models of school leadership, and combining the various needs of the New Curriculum Plan for the improvement of primary school principals’ educational leadership,we finally determined the four dimensions of primary school principals’ educational leadership, namely, structural leadership, interpersonal leadership, cultural leadership and curriculum leadership.Based on the theoretical discussion of the educational leadership of primary school principals, this paper establishes Principal Z as the research object.Through long-term participatory observation and in-depth interviews with Principal Z and his school,it is found that Principal Z has achieved certain results in the implementation of the New Curriculum Plan, such as deepening the reform of the teaching and research system, strengthening inter school cooperation, strengthening spiritual and cultural guidance, and actively carrying out school-based development. At the same time, principal Z also has some problems in various dimensions of educational leadership, such as insufficient awareness of democratic management in schools, failure to establish a mechanism for effective cooperation between parents and principals, insufficient awareness of cultural identity, lack of common vision, and incomplete school-based curriculum development system. It is found that the educational leadership level of principal Z is deeply influenced by three factors, namely, external factors of the school, internal factors of the school and personal factors of the principal. For example, external factors of the school, the concept of family education is relatively backward;in terms of internal factors in schools, the democratic decision-making mechanism in schools is not sound enough;in terms of personal factors of the principal, the role positioning of the principal is ambiguous.Based on the problems and their causes, this article proposes improvement strategies from the perspectives of institutional construction, society, schools, and principals’ professional perspectives. At the level of institutional construction, the government should improve the principal responsibility system;at the social level, society can promote streamlining administration and delegating power to stimulate the vitality of education;at the school level, primary school should strengthen cultural construction and create a harmonious educational atmosphere;from the perspective of the principal’s professional perspective, principals should enhance their professional knowledge and abilities. |
