| In the 1990 s,a revolution in the integration of education, biology and neuroscience provided the theoretical basis for early childhood education and the practical support of international long-term follow-up experiments.Experts and scholars have demonstrated the value of early education for both individual development and social compensation for infants and children. As the ’heart’ of early education, the early education curriculum is the’medium’ through which teachers communicate with children and parents, using the curriculum as a basis for their guidance, and thus for the achievement of educational goals. It is through this ’hub’ that early education works directly with children, raising the ceiling of their self-development.In recent years, research on early education in China has been in its infancy, and very little research has focused on the early education curriculum.pro Therefore,in order to enrich the perspective of early education curriculum research in China and improve the overall quality, this study adopts a case study approach and conducts an actual survey in an early education centre(J Park)in Changchun City, from which we investigate the reality of the early education curriculum in J Park through textual analysis, interviewing and observation methods, and take the comprehensive and harmonious physical and mental development of children as a logical starting point to summaries the basic experience of the current early education curriculum and the existing problems. On the basis of this,we will dig deeper into the relevant factors affecting the design and implementation of the curriculum, and then consider how to improve the overall quality of the early education curriculum. The following conclusions were drawn.Firstly, the curriculum is divided into three main sections: ’physical curriculum’,’group curriculum’ and ’sensory curriculum’,the objectives of which are based on the laws of physical and mental development and social requirements of infants and toddlers. The content is chosen to meet the interests of infants and toddlers,to reproduce real life, and to cross the "nearest developmental zone" of the individual. In terms of organisation, the programme is divided into eight classes over a three-month period, with three classes a week and an integrated process. In terms of implementation, the curriculum is adapted to the child’s needs, and children’s learning is promoted through life,parent-child play and teaching activities,as well as through verbal guidance and practical demonstrations. Finally, teachers are the main evaluators of the curriculum, and the whole process is reviewed in the form of a post-lesson reflection form.Secondly,J Garden has incorporated the "concept of appropriate education based on the laws of child development","the concept of whole-person development that values children’s self-fulfilment" and "the concept of co-parenting to achieve parent-child growth " in the whole process of curriculum construction, truly pointing to the comprehensive and harmonious development of children’s bodies and minds. At the same time,in the process of design and implementation, there are inevitable problems such as "lack of ’systematic’ structure of the curriculum objectives","overloaded curriculum content and cumbersome processes","lack of ’systematic’teacher-child interaction",and "lack of ’systematic’ curriculum structure"."The lack of’enthusiasm’ in teacher-child interaction, and the lack of ’scientificity’ in the curriculum evaluation mechanism.Thirdly, internal factors such as the leadership of the director, the professionalism of teachers and the conditional resources of the curriculum,as well as external factors such as parents of infants and toddlers, social organisations and educational administrations all have some influence on the design and implementation of the early childhood education curriculum. This study proposes the following recommendations for optimising the early childhood education curriculum: for early childhood education centres,to create a comprehensive, scientific and high-quality early childhood education curriculum model;to strengthen the learning consciousness of school directors and explore new pathways for curriculum leadership development;to co-ordinate internal and external factors to create a high-quality and innovative professional teacher team;and to integrate multiple curriculum resources and improve the efficiency of resource development and utilization. For parents and the education sector, parents should establish a long-term communication mechanism with teachers to improve their parenting knowledge and ability, while the education sector should increase its efforts in building early education and curriculum through multiple channels. |
