As the main front of transferring talents to the society,universities all over the world have regarded the cultivation of critical thinking as the consistent pursuit of educational reform.Critical thinking is not only the key to cultivating high-quality innovative talents,but also an important driving force to promote the development of modern society.College students with critical thinking is more conducive to improving their ability to adapt to the future society.However,the existing research shows that the overall level of critical thinking of Chinese college students is not good at present.Especially,compared with urban college students,the development of critical thinking of rural college students presents an obvious weakness,and the research has not paid enough attention to the tendency of critical thinking.Among the many environmental variables that affect the tendency of critical thinking,the family environment,especially the parenting style,has a profound and lasting influence on the cognitive development of children.Therefore,this study takes rural college students as the research object,focuses on the influence of their parenting styles on critical thinking tendencies,and further analyzes the self-efficacy and self-esteem between their parenting styles and critical thinking tendencies based on the ecosystem theory,in order to provide effective suggestions for improving the college students’ thinking.On the basis of literature analysis and questionnaire survey,this study takes undergraduates from two "double first-class" universities in J Province as research objects.Through description analysis,difference test,correlation analysis and mediation effect test,The research found that:(1)On the whole,the critical thinking tendency and self-efficacy of college students are at the medium level,and their self-esteem is above the medium level.Most parents tend to choose emotional warmth parenting style,followed by overprotective parenting style,at least use rejection parenting style;The overall level of critical thinking tendency,positive parenting style,self-efficacy and self-esteem of rural college students is slightly lower than that of urban students.(2)Among them,there are significant differences in the parenting style of rural college fathers in terms of gender,whether they are the only child,whether they have left-behind experience,whether they are the children of migrant workers,their academic performance in class,their parents’ education level,their annual family income,and how close they are to their co-residents.There are significant differences in the critical thinking tendency and self-efficacy of rural college students in whether they are the only child,whether they are student cadres,whether they are migrant children,their academic performance in class,and their parents’ education level.The self-esteem of rural college students differs in whether they are student cadres,grades in class and parents’ education level.(3)Rural college students with different levels of critical thinking tendency have significant differences in their parenting style,self-efficacy and self-esteem,that is,rural college students with high critical thinking tendency have relatively high scores in self-efficacy,self-esteem and emotional warmth parenting style.(4)There is a significant pairwise correlation between the four variables of rural college students.that is,the higher the rural college students’ emotional warmth parenting style level,the higher their self-efficacy and self-esteem level;The higher the refusal type and over protection type of rural college students,the lower the level of self-efficacy and self-esteem;The higher the level of self-efficacy and self-esteem of rural college students,the better the critical thinking tendency.(5)Parenting style has a direct predictive effect on the critical thinking tendency,and can also influence the critical thinking tendency through the chain mediating effect of self-efficacy and self-esteem.Based on the above findings,from the perspective of promoting the critical thinking tendency of rural college students,this study puts forward the following suggestions: Create a good family atmosphere based on equality and respect;Set an example and take the lead,pay attention to the importance of thinking development;Create an inclusive campus environment and focus on interdisciplinary integration of courses;Strengthen independent teaching and advocate diversified evaluation;Optimize their own knowledge structure,reshape the level of development ability,in order to can be used for reference in the future related theory and practice.
