Objective: To establish the lifetime prevalence rates of suicide ideations, plans andattempts of inhabitants in Dalian, and to identify the relevant factors, which will providetheoretical basis for intervention and prevention of suicidal behavior and thedevelopment of strategies and measures to intervene with suicidal behavior.Methods: A representative sample included5062respondents extracted from the11areas in Dalian. Stratified multi-stage cluster randomization was used. They wereinterviewed face by face using the Composite International Diagnostic Interview(CIDI3.0) and assessed by DSM-IV diagnoses. To calculate the lifetime prevalence ratesof suicide ideations, plans and attempts of different groups, chi-square test was used tofind the difference of the prevalence of different groups.Results:(1)The lifetime prevalence of suicide ideations, plans and attempts were3.93%,1.10%and0.50%respectively.(2) The incidences of suicide ideations, plansand attempts were no significant differences between urban and rural areas, men andwomen, different ages.(3)The incidences of suicide ideations and attempts were nosignificant differences among different mental disorders, whereas it was not in suicideplans.(4)Whether different regions, gender and ages, the probability of attempt amongideators with a plan was significantly higher than among those without a plan.Conclusion:(1)The lifetime prevalence of suicide ideations of inhabitants inDalian was3.93%, which was basically the same as the national level. The lifetimeprevalence of suicide plans and attempts were1.10%and0.50%respectively.(2)Theincidences of suicide ideations, plans and attempts of inhabitants in Dalian were nosignificant differences between urban and rural areas, men and women, different ages.(3)Inhabitants in Dalian suffering from more than two mental disorders more likelyappear suicide ideations, plans and attempts. The incidence of those with mentaldisorders was higher than those unaffected.(4)The probability of attempt among ideators with a plan was significantly higher than among those without a plan.
