The cultivation of thinking has been closely connection with Chinese teaching.It is said that the language is the expression of thinking,and the thinking is the core of language.Chinese is not only a discipline of language use,but also a discipline that develops thinking and improves thinking ability.The Chinese Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)clearly points out that it is necessary to pay attention to students’ core literacy,and promote the development of students’ thinking ability while cultivating students’ language use ability.In the primary school stage,the development of students’ thinking is at a rapid-developing period.As a consequence,it is necessary to make good use of Chinese courses to train students’ thinking and improve students’ thinking ability.Skimming text teaching is an important part of Chinese teaching in primary school,and also an effective carrier for improving thinking ability.The skimming text has a unique form and rich text content,at the same time,the teaching process satisfies the requirement of student-center.The generative characteristic of the teaching process is remarkable,which provides a vast space for students’ thinking growth.It is a useful way to develop and improve students’ thinking ability.However,there are still some problems in the teaching of skimming text in primary school,and the value of improving students’ thinking ability is still limited.Therefore,it requires teachers to fully explore the thinking points in the skimming text and teaching process,so as to mobilize students’ enthusiasm for learning,promote students to think positively,and activate the teaching to achieve the teaching function of improving students’ thinking ability.The purpose of this paper is to comprehend the current research on the teaching of the skimming text and thinking ability through literature research method,so as to clarify the content of this paper.Then the author clarifies the relationship between the teaching of the skimming text and improving thinking ability through text analysis method.Thirdly,the author makes a survey about the current situation of improving students’ thinking ability in the teaching of the skimming text in elementary school through questionnaire survey method and classroom observation method.And the author summarizes the current problems of the teaching of the skimming text to improve students’ thinking ability based on the current situation.Finally,the author also attributes these problems and then proposes corresponding teaching strategies.This paper uses textual analysis to identify the significant differences between the textual form,writing intentions,and teaching functions of the skimming text and the intensive reading text.The learning of the skimming text more emphasis on students’ independent learning and group inquiry,highlighting the subjectivity of students.Students have already mastered the unit reading method after studying several intensive reading texts,and the skimming text provides students with the opportunity to practice and consolidate.As a result,students’ thinking is more active in the study of the skimming text,and the generative nature of the process of teaching is significant,which can better train and enhance students’ thinking skills in the teaching of the skimming text.Second,the author conducts the theoretical exposition of the teaching of skimming text which is directed at the improvement of thinking ability.It clarifies its specific connotations,summarizes the teaching characteristics,and points out the three principles,that is the principle of subjectivity,the principle of inspiration and the principle of integration.In the investigation of the current situation of the teaching of the skimming text in elementary school,it is found that the current front-line teachers have some problems,such as the problems of the superficial teaching goals,limited teaching content,single teaching method and flat teaching evaluation pay little attention to students’ thinking,which in turn leads to a limited role in improving students’ thinking ability.An exploration of the above issues boils down to three major problems: teachers’ incomplete knowledge of skimming texts,teachers’ lack of attention to thinking skills,and limited training of thinking in classroom activities.Finally,the author proposes the teaching strategies for the problems.With the improvement of thinking ability as the core,the strategies are proposed from the four major aspects of the formulation of teaching objectives,the integration of teaching content,the selection of teaching methods,and the implementation of teaching evaluation.It is clear that in the whole process of teaching,the teachers should strengthen the attention to the cultivation and improvement of students’ thinking ability.There is a need for teachers to fully explore the factors conducive to students’ thinking development in skimming text and the teaching process,and make reasonable use of them to achieve the improvement of thinking ability in all aspects of teaching.
