Operation ability is one of the nine main contents of the core literacy of mathematics in junior high school.Mathematical operation ability is the basic ability to solve mathematical problems.It is also an important basic skill to apply students’ mathematical knowledge to daily life.In mathematics teaching,it is beneficial to cultivate students’ mathematical operation ability to improve students’ logical inference level and develop the habit of thinking problems in procedural thinking.Grade 8 is an important period for students’ mathematical operation ability.This study is based on the core literacy of mathematical,the standard of the mathematics curriculum compulsory education(2022 edition)and Piaget’s constructivism,this study adopts the literature research method,test survey method and questionnaire method to investigate,research and analyze the mathematical operation ability of students who are in Grade 8.In the school where the author teaches,ten classes in Grade 8 were selected to write test papers of Grade 8 arithmetic ability from five dimensions: understanding arithmetic objects,mastering arithmetic rules,selecting arithmetic methods,checking arithmetic results,and applying mathematical thoughts and methods.The questionnaire was compiled from the following five dimensions:whether students are interested in mathematics and mathematical operation,students’ cognition of the importance of mathematical ability,students’ operational habits,students’ attribution of scores lost in mathematical operation,and students’ cognition of methods to improve mathematical ability.In addition,a teacher questionnaire was compiled from four dimensions: teachers’ cognition of students’ arithmetic ability,teachers’ methods of cultivating students’ arithmetic ability in teaching,teachers’ cognition of the causes of students’ arithmetic errors and teachers’ cognition of teaching strategies to improve students’ arithmetic ability.The current status and causes of students’ arithmetic ability were investigated and analyzed comprehensively from three aspects.To provide data support for subsequent teaching strategies.Through the investigation,the following three points are found:(1)most of the students think that they have a passion for math learning and math operation,but the teachers think that most of the students are not very interested in math,there are some emotions of fear of difficulties,the enthusiasm of math operation is generally low,their math operation level is different;(2)Students can’t pay enough attention to the basic knowledge of mathematical definition,rules,formulas and theorems,and do not understand them in place.They may confuse formulas,lack the consciousness of selecting the optimal algorithm,and have poor operation habits(for example,they do not examine the problem carefully,do not check after operation,etc.).(3)In the actual work,the majority of teachers pay much attention to the training of children’s mathematical operations,who not only emphasize the teaching of basic mathematical knowledge,but also emphasize the cultivation of children’s mathematical operation habits,but all in vain.According to the research feedback,combined with the actual situation,the author summarizes the teaching strategies for cultivating students’ mathematical operation ability in the new teaching,exercise class and unit review class,and presents the corresponding teaching cases for the reference of the majority of front-line young teachers.The teaching strategies are as follows:(1)In the new lesson,we should pay attention to cultivating students’ interest in mathematics learning,enlarge their sense of achievement in learning,help students build their confidence in learning,lead students to learn continuously and deeply by interest and sense of achievement,and emphasize the importance of basic knowledge in the teaching process,and strive to let students understand the definition,theorem and law and other content.(2)In the exercise lesson,students should be guided to use different solving methods,feel the simplicity and advantages of some algorithms,develop the understanding of their optimal solutions,and cultivate students’ good operation habits(such as careful examination,writing,checking calculation,etc.).(3)In the unit review lesson,it is necessary to help students form a series connection between the definition of number and formula,arithmetic rules,arithmetic laws and other old and new knowledge,improve students’ knowledge structure,and strengthen the penetration of the overall thought,from special to general and transformation of mathematical ideas.
