In order to cultivate new talents needed for socialist construction, the field of education is also constantly updating educational concepts, innovating educational methods, and gradually enhancing the competitiveness of talents in the global field.STEM is the abbreviation of the English acronym of the four disciplines of Science,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics, different from the traditional single teaching model,STEM integrates multidisciplinary educational concepts,is a new model of diversified education, subtly cultivates students’ interdisciplinary thinking, and improves students’ STEM science literacy. The "Compulsory Education Primary Science Curriculum Standards" points out that the primary school science curriculum is not only the study of theory, but also the practice of life, and teachers are encouraged to implement the STEM education model in the teaching process and cultivate students’ interdisciplinary thinking. This study used questionnaire surveys, interviews, educational experiments, teaching observations and other methods to carry out the current situation of students’ understanding of primary school science, the design and practice of primary life science curriculum based on STEM concept, and teaching evaluation, and obtained the following results:1.The results of questionnaire surveys and interviews with teachers show that primary school students are quite interested in science experiment courses, but some students’ cognition only stays in hands-on operation is fun,but there is very little thinking about the principle and nature of the phenomenon;Primary science teachers have strong subject integration skills and are clearly aware that education should and must keep up with the times, but lack practical opportunities and professional training.Based on the purpose of cultivating students’ cooperative spirit, thinking ability, innovation awareness and other qualities, and providing teachers with new teaching methods, teaching strategies and teaching tools,it is necessary to further carry out research on primary school science teaching based on STEM model.2.Based on STEM theory, the primary life science curriculum is designed.Combined with the analysis and interpretation of China’s primary school curriculum standards, the classroom teaching of primary life sciences under the guidance of STEM concept was designed, and STEM series courses such as "Little Gardener" were designed according to the specific teaching content, and the corresponding process and final evaluation scales were formulated.3.Teaching practice is carried out based on teaching cases. The experimental class adopts the STEM teaching mode, while the control class still adopts the traditional teaching mode, and the class time is synchronized. The results of the pre-test questionnaire showed that the students in the experimental class and the control class did not have obvious differences in the five dimensions of scientific knowledge, curriculum attitude, innovative thinking, scientific inquiry and problem-solving ability, and the scientific level they had was basically the same. After a month of practical teaching, the results of the post-test survey show that STEM-based classroom education plays a significant role in improving students’ interest in learning, helping students understand and solve problems, and cultivating and improving students’ "science literacy".In summary, the introduction of STEM teaching in primary life science teaching can effectively improve students’ comprehensive ability. The relevant results of this study can provide a certain teaching reference for the integration of STEM concepts into primary school science classrooms, and help front-line teachers to use STEM teaching mode to carry out life science courses at the primary school level.
