Geography knowledge in geography teaching is mainly transmitted through the media of geography textbooks.The image system in geography textbooks is the most dynamic,and is an indispensable part of information transmission and knowledge utilization.It is also an important component of teaching.Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the main versions of geography textbooks for senior high schools in China have included five versions:(1)The People’s Education Edition of "Foreign Economic Geography" and "China’s Economic Geography",with a usage period from 1952 to 1958;(2)The People’s Education Edition of "Geography" textbooks mainly used from 1982 to 1997;(3)The People’s Education Edition of "Geography",a compulsory course for full-time ordinary senior high school textbooks,has been in use since 1997,and has been widely used since 2000,(4)The 2003 edition of Geography textbook has been used since 2004,including compulsory one,two and three.(5)In 2019,all provinces began to use compulsory one and compulsory two of the general high school textbooks prepared according to the 2017 edition of curriculum standards.The 2017 edition of the Geography Curriculum Standards for General High School was officially implemented in 2018 and revised again in 2020.Compared with the previous curriculum standards,the curriculum structure has changed from "compulsory+optional" to "compulsory+optional+optional";The curriculum objectives are also changing,from the final three-dimensional objectives to the core quality objectives;The content,concept and nature of the course have changed accordingly.The reform of the new curriculum standards has brought great challenges to geography teaching.As the second language of geography textbooks,image system is the key and difficult point of textbook modification.Whether the design of the image system is reasonable is not only related to its role,but also related to the realization of the functions of the entire geography textbook.This paper studies the changes of the image system based on the two reference textbooks of the 2004 edition of the People’s Education Edition Public Geography Compulsory 1(hereinafter referred to as the old textbook)and the 2019 edition of the People’s Education Edition High School Geography Compulsory 1(hereinafter referred to as the new textbook).Starting from the needs of the new curriculum reform,combined with the actual situation of Zunyi senior high school geography education,and the application of geographical image system in senior high school geography education.Based on Gestalt theory,humanistic learning theory and geography teaching theory,this paper analyzes and explores the types,density,quantity,expressiveness,presentation methods,changes in connection with texts and activities,timeliness and other issues of images in the geomorphology related content of new and old geography textbooks,and obtains the following conclusions:First,there are significant similarities in the features of geographic image systems in the relevant chapters of geomorphology in the new and old textbooks.There are many geographical images with rich types and small differences in density.In terms of picture organization,the new and old textbooks’ geomorphology chapters are mainly composed of single pictures,supplemented by combined pictures.At the same time,the new and old geography textbooks pay great attention to the practicality of images in the selection of images.Secondly,the image system in the relevant chapters of the textbook has prominent advantages;The proportion of geographical landscape map is relatively high.It pays attention to the cultivation of students’ interest in learning.At the same time,compared with the old textbooks,it improves the number and proportion of geographical schematic map,trains students’ thinking ability,and takes into account the improvement of logical thinking ability and the cultivation of students’ interest in learning.The new textbook increases the area of the map,making the color of the whole geographical image system more harmonious and displaying better.Pay attention to the connection with social hot issues,which has strong timeliness.With the increase of the number of remote sensing images,the relationship between geographic image system and modern geographic information technology has been strengthened.Third,compared with the old textbook,the relationship between the image system of the new textbook and the text system is:(1)the presentation of pictures and texts is closer,(2)the text image annotation is more,the content is richer,and the scope of knowledge is expanded.The relationship between image system and activity system is as follows:(1)add "thinking" column to strengthen the transfer and application of image content;(2)relatively speaking,the "activity" column emphasizes the use of maps in the development of geographical activities,and pays more attention to the cultivation of students’ practical ability in geography.Fourth,the new textbook compulsory volume 1 and the optional compulsory 1geomorphology-related chapters also have the disadvantages of low geographical image density and relatively few combined images.According to the distribution of the Teachers’ Questionnaire on the Comparative Analysis of the Image System of New and Old Geography Textbooks of Zunyi People’s Education Edition,(1)geography teachers in Zunyi believe that the changes of the new geography textbooks conform to the development of the times and the cultivation of geographical literacy.(2)The text system has detailed content and rich columns.(3)The new textbook is intuitive,rich in content,clear in image and high in utilization.(4)It has strong ability to acquire image resources.Based on the analysis of the "Student Questionnaire on the Investigation of the Image System in the New Teaching Materials of Zunyi People’s Education Edition",it is found that(1)students believe that the new teaching materials of Zunyi People’s Education Edition have added more knowledge about life,and the quantity and quality of images have improved.(2)The images in the new textbook have bright colors,various types,and are simple and easy to understand,providing students with better learning materials and learning experience.By comparing the results of the geographical image system in the relevant chapters of the new and old textbooks,and combining the results of the questionnaire survey of teachers and students on the use of the image system in the new and old textbooks in Zunyi City,this paper provides theoretical basis and data support for the subsequent design of the optional compulsory course 1,Chapter 2,Section 1,"The Power to Shape the Surface
