| With the changing needs of society for talent, the cultivation of comprehensive, technical and innovative talent is a growing concern for educators in all countries.STEAM education is an integrated education concept that spans the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.Based on the concept of STEAM education, how to cultivate talents has been the concern of educational researchers. The new curriculum standard for compulsory education, which has just been promulgated, places special emphasis on “interdisciplinary practice”,which aims to develop students’ comprehensive analytical and problem-solving skills. The“interdisciplinary practice” is in line with the concept of STEAM education, which emphasizes the development of students’ comprehensive practical skills.Project-based learning is the selection of real-life situations to motivate students to learn the course content, and the use of driving questions to guide students in self-learning,cooperative and inquiry learning activities.Project-based learning is the concrete implementation of “interdisciplinary practice” and an important way to realize the concept of STEAM education. The authors will focus on the design and practice of project-based learning and evaluate the effectiveness of learning from multiple perspectives after the implementation of the course. The aim is to verify the feasibility of implementing the “interdisciplinary practice” requirement with project-based learning, while developing students’ interests in the vocational field. The junior high school students of Qixiu Middle School in Hohhot City were used as the research subjects, and literature research method, survey research method, and paper-and-pencil test method were used as the research methods in this study.Firstly, after combing through the relevant literature and clarifying the general process and principles of design project learning, interviews and research were conducted with front-line teachers and students, respectively.SPSS software was used to analyze the reliability and validity to understand the actual needs of teachers and students in current junior high school physics learning. Then, based on the concept of STEAM education, the project “Designing and Building a Steam Engine” was selected to be aligned with the content of Chapter 14 “The Use of Internal Energy” in the9 th grade of the Humanities Education Edition, and the project-based learning practice was carried out. Finally, the research conclusions were obtained by analyzing the student performance during the course implementation and the post-course research test results through a combination of teacher evaluation and student evaluation, and process evaluation and outcome evaluation. The results shown that the introduction of project-based learning in junior high school physics curriculum can not only help students understand physics knowledge in depth and build a subject knowledge system, but also promote students’ subject literacy and learning ability,as well as implement the requirements of “interdisciplinary practice” in the new curriculum, develop students’ interest in STEAM career fields, and enhance the cultivation of students’ core literacy. This study can provide some reference for front-line teachers to introduce project-based learning in junior high school physics teaching. |
