The middle school entrance examination is a comprehensive and competitive test that evaluates the results of nine years of compulsory education in China.It is also the first major educational examination that students face in their lives,and its results not only affect the personal future and destiny of the students,but also the lives of millions of families.According to statistics from the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Education,the number of participants in Nanjing’s midterm exams is generally on the rise,from 46,987 in 2017 to 54,411 in 2021.Therefore,research on the examination questions of the middle school entrance examination has become an important way for educators to understand educational trends,improve teaching strategies,and keep up with the times.In 2017,there were significant changes in the language textbooks and admission policies for the middle school entrance examination in Nanjing,which led to corresponding changes in the examination questions.Furthermore,the examination questions after 2017 tended to be stable in content and structure,making it easier to discern the trend and characteristics of the questions.Therefore,this article selected the language examination questions from the Nanjing middle school entrance examination from 2017 to 2021 as the research object,and conducted research from the following three aspects: first,statistical analysis was conducted from the structure and content of the questions to compare the changes in the examination questions;second,the advantages and disadvantages of the language examination questions were evaluated in conjunction with the language textbooks,the "Examination Instructions," and the "Curriculum Standards," and corresponding improvement suggestions were proposed;third,based on the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the questions,combined with the current teaching situation and teaching practice,corresponding teaching suggestions were proposed.Preliminary research found that the Nanjing middle school entrance examination questions from 2017 to 2021 have the following advantages:the structure is stable yet variable,the source material is close to life,the examination covers a comprehensive range of knowledge with flexible question types,the examination questions set the theme and context,reflecting humanistic care,and the examination questions immerse cultural.In response to the current shortcomings in the test questions,this article proposes several suggestions for test design.These include changing the format of handwriting questions,increasing the emphasis on dictation questions,incorporating interdisciplinary concepts into the test questions,using a variety of genres in reading passages,and adding micro-writing exercises to enrich the assessment of writing ability.Additionally,based on the author’s own teaching experience and the actual situation of third-grade students in Nanjing,this article puts forward some teaching suggestions.For example,emphasizing the learning of local culture,cultivating writing skills,strengthening the understanding and integration of ancient poetry,emphasizing the cultivation of students’ reading habits,and enhancing the use of micro-writing in composition teaching.It is hoped that these suggestions can bring new ideas to teachers and help solve some current problems in teaching.
