Teacher support is an important source of support for students,meeting a variety of basic psychological needs and having a positive effect on student learning and growth.Teacher support behaviors affect students’ academic achievement,learning engagement,motivation,attitudes toward learning,and academic emotions,and are an essential force in students’ individual development.Currently,most of the research on teacher support behaviors focuses on the impact teachers have on students and ignores the impact students have on teachers.Based on this,this paper explores the influence of student engagement on teacher support behaviors from the students’ perspective and proposes corresponding strategies for optimizing teacher support behaviors to promote students’ learning and development.A questionnaire and interview outline were prepared based on reading and organizing related literature and sorting out relevant theories.A random sample was used to distribute questionnaires among the group of elementary school students in grades 3-6,and 514 valid questionnaires were collected.The data were analyzed using SPSS software and combined with the interview survey to explore the influence of student involvement on teacher support behavior.Combining the results of the questionnaire analysis and interview analysis,this study concluded the following: first,student involvement and teacher support behaviors showed good levels overall,but students’ extracurricular activity involvement and teachers’ competence support levels needed to be improved;second,students’ gender,grade level,whether they were class leaders,language learning achievement,whether they liked the language teacher,and whether they liked the language subject in terms of student involvement and teacher support behaviors There were significant differences in student engagement on teacher support behaviors;third,student engagement was a significant predictor of teacher support behaviors,as reflected in student engagement in course behaviors significantly influencing teacher affective support and competency support,students’ positive course attitude experiences significantly influencing teacher support behaviors,students’ deep cognitive engagement significantly influencing teacher support behaviors,and students’ extracurricular activity engagement significantly influencing teacher support behaviors.In order to optimize teacher support behaviors and promote student engagement,the following countermeasures are proposed: first,enhance teacher support awareness and improve teacher support behaviors;second,stimulate students’ positive and active engagement and promote the interaction between teaching and learning;third,focus on the role of students’ positive affective experiences in teacher-student teaching interactions;fourth,improve the effectiveness of student learning and promote positive teacher-student teaching interactions;fifth,increase the importance of extracurricular activities and organize rich and diverse extracurricular activities;sixth,build a good school education environment to promote teacher support behaviors;seventh,pay attention to various factors affecting student participation inside and outside the classroom to promote student participation. |
