Community rehabilitation,as a model of drug rehabilitation,is the result of China’s exploration and summary of Western experience in drug rehabilitation practices. As China is still in the initial exploration stage in the field of community-based rehabilitation and drug treatment, there are inevitably various problems with the community-based rehabilitation and drug treatment model, resulting in the rehabilitation treatment and social return effect of drug addicts being seriously affected. The introduction of casework will be a useful complement to the community-based rehabilitation model, given the unique and complex circumstances of drug rehabilitation and the realities of how it works. This thesis takes the construction of a social support network for drug addicts in the process of community rehabilitation as the starting point.Using the ecosystem theory, social support theory and reintegration theory as perspectives, this thesis analyses and studies the practical process and effects of using casework in the construction of a social support network for drug addicts through observation and interviews, verifies the feasibility of using casework in the reconstruction of a social support network for drug addicts, and analyses and summarises the problems that arise in the service process, and then proposes corresponding countermeasures, ultimately promoting the enrichment and development of the application of social work methods in the field of drug rehabilitation.Empirical research has found that growth and change is a prerequisite for positive interaction with social support networks, and that positive social interactions can facilitate the completion of community rehabilitation, with the acceptance and support of family members being the core motivation. In this case, there were multiple difficulties such as physical impairment, lack of self-awareness,breakdown of family relationships and difficulties in community integration. The author uses a casework approach to intervene, using techniques and models such as interviews and home visits during the service, following the general process of casework, collecting background information and anticipating needs, developing and implementing a service plan, assessing the overall effectiveness of the service and closing the case. After analysing and collating data from daily observation records and interviews, the author found that the casework approach was effective in restoring the physical and psychological functions of drug addicts, improving family relationships, building social support networks for drug addicts and facilitating their return to society. With regard to the risks that social work under the community rehabilitation model is constrained in practice by the administrative system and the subjective and arbitrary nature of assessment, the author believes that social workers should coordinate their relationship with the government and social organisations to promote the localised development of social work in drug rehabilitation while clarifying their functional roles, adhering to professional values and improving the level of professional services.
