Hwang Lechuug Tsetung(1887—1979)was born in Jiaxing,Zhejiang.He is a famous philosopher and translator.He has served at Yenching University,Hunan University,Hunan Lantian National Normal College,Wuhan University and Peking University.During the long term educational practice,Hwang has formed an educational ideological system with comprehensive contents and distinctive characteristics,left an valuable educational exploration experience.Hwang’s academic career can be divided into three stages,which is Yenching University,Hunan University,Wuhan University and Peking University.The infiltration of Chinese traditional culture,the influence of Western philosophical theory and the promotion of long-term teaching practice in Colleges and universities have formed and developed his educational idea.Hwang’s educational idea system includes four aspects,which is educational philosophy,moral education,teaching and educational management.Firstly,he replies the purpose and mission of education from the perspective of the state and individuals,and puts forward the standards that should be achieved in cultivating talents,that is,educators should cultivate new youth of the times,who have good morality and rich knowledge,insist on the union of theory and practice,can be adept in promoting harmony between individuals and groups,and be able to integrate traditional and new trends.Secondly,he takes the establishment of a profound national concept as the goal of moral education,adheres to the moral education principles that seek the unity of thought and action as well as the adaptation of individual and environment,sets Confucian’s doctrine of "Loyalty& Tolerance" as the content of moral education,and implements multiplex overall planning moral education methods.Thirdly,he treats the relationship between teaching and learning dialectically,changes the teacher-centered theory and balances the main body of teachers and students.He formulates scientific instructional objectives to help students to have a thorough knowledge of China and foreign countries.He upholds the teaching principle of respecting individual differences and teaches students according to their aptitude.He also appreciates problem consciousness and scientific spirit.Finally,he implements the school running philosophy of cultivating generalists,integrating China and the west,and paying equal attention to teaching and research.On the one hand,he does not stick to one pattern in the selection of professional teachers,exchanges with each other in the direction of cooperation and joint construction,and respects each other with an attitude of academic freedom.On the other hand,He bases on the standard of "strict entry and strict exit",adopts flexible and diverse forms to cultivate students with general knowledge and professional knowledge.Histories make men wise.Hwang’s educational idea have excellent theoretical value and practical enlightenment: On the one hand,his educational idea has its own system,which embodies the characteristics of comprehensiveness,hierarchy and regularity,and enriches the ideological connotation of Chinese modern educators.On the other hand,his educational idea and practice helps contemporary college students engage in academic research better,improves the teaching abilities of college tutors,drives consideration on building up excellent universities.
