Abstract/Summary:
As the chief executive of a university, the president plays a decisive role in the administration of the university. This dissertation researches into the effect the Educational Idea of the president exerts upon the University administration and how it happens. This is an exploring subject, which is both of theoretical and practical significance. To grant the conclusion a universal sense, this dissertation, with the universities and their presidents worldwide as the studying subjects, employs the methods of combining history and reality, theory and practice.The study consists of three parts. The first part, including the Introduction and Chapter One, is the basic study. The Introduction explains briefly the points this paper digs into. Part One makes an overall and deep discussion on such topics as the University and its President, Educational Idea and its levels, the Educational Idea of the president and its characteristics and, in the end, their influences upon the administration of a university. According to the discussion in Chapter One on the Educational Idea Levels, Chapter Two endeavors to acquire an accurate understanding of the connotations of these ideas such as the University Idea, the Educational Goal Idea, the Teacher Idea, and the University - Administering Idea and hence systematically discusses the relations between these ideas and the University -Administering. It studies the influence of the president's University Idea upon University -Administering and puts forward the concepts of the University Nature - Defining Idea, the University Position - Orienting Idea, the University Function - Setting Idea along with the discussion of their practical significance. It studies the relation between the president' s Educational Goal Idea and talents - cultivating, revealing how the president's Educational Idea affects his Sense of university running, Sense of students, Sense of talents, Sense of curriculum and Sense of methods and how these senses influence the talents - cultivating. It studies the relation between the president' s Teacher Idea and teaching - administration and, based on the overall analysis of the university teacher's fundamental role, discusses several typical Teacher Ideas such as the Theory of Soul (this theory holds that the teacher is the architect of one's soul) , the Theory of Master, the Theory of All - embracing and their influences upon teaching administration. It also studies the relation between the president s University - administrating Idea and University - administrating, and illustrates the importance of the University - administrating Idea to the University - administrating with regard to the discussions of the position - orienting of university running, of the balance between the academic power and administrative force, of university autonomy and university inter- management . Part Three draws the conclusion that the president s University - Administering Idea is of great importance for university administration; that the choosing of university president is of great significance; and that it is vital for university president to put his Educational Idea into action.
