In order to improve the welfare of children in urban distress,this paper uses group work method to intervene with urban distressed children in Jincheng,Shanxi Province to enhance their self-confidence.The article first uses interviews,participant observation and questionnaire survey methods,and finds that the self-confidence level of the urban distressed children in Jincheng,Shanxi is generally low,and there are problems such as self-denial,lack of successful experience,and poor interpersonal skills;the reasons include personal cognition,peer interaction,Family support and psychoeducation.On this basis,guided by the theory of me in the mirror and the superiority perspective,eight group activities to improve self-confidence were carried out: in the early stage of the group,by improving cognition,help team members build a correct self-awareness;in the middle of the group,create success Experience to help team members tap their strengths and potentials;in the later stage of the group,strengthen behaviors and improve team members’ interpersonal skills.Through various evaluation methods such as the self-confidence scale before and after the comparison,it is shown that the self-confidence level of urban children in difficult situations can be improved through the intervention of group work.Finally,this study provides the following suggestions and opinions for social work to intervene in the self-confidence improvement of children in distress: improve the way of social work intervention;advocate the introduction of social workers in schools;build a home-school linkage and mutual assistance mechanism;develop community care for children in distress help.
