Work and family are two important fields in life.Whether and how to balance between work and family has gradually become a common concern of people.Behind the rapid development of modernization,a large number of new immigrants are playing a pivotal role in this process, and the number of old people moving with them is increasing. The old people who move with them have a direct impact on the family life of new urban immigrants, but also have an indirect impact on their work, and then affect the work-family balance of new urban immigrants.Inspired by the existing literature and combined with the interview survey, this paper divides the old people living with them into four types according to the two dimensions of economic support and labor support: support type, nanny type, shelter type and dependent type.By exploring the daily interaction of economy and labor between different types of old people and new immigrants,it is found that "supportive" old people can promote the work-family balance of new immigrants through labor support and economic support."Nanny-type" older people who move with them promote work-family balance by providing labor support."Relocating" old people need labor support from new immigrants, which intensifies work-family balance."Dependent" elderly people who move with them need to be taken care of,and the stress of taking care disrupts the work-family balance. The work-family boundary theory is used to explain the mechanism behind the difference.
