The development of regional technological innovation cannot be separated from the support of innovation factors, and labor force is the most basic innovation factor in the process of innovation. The large-scale flow of labor is a typical feature accompanying China’s economic development. The free flow and efficient allocation of labor force have resulted in the interaction and connection of human capital elements between regions, presenting a networked feature in spatial morphology, and thus forming a complex labor flow connection network. The difference in resource endowments across regions determines the influence and position of cities in the labor flow network, thereby affecting regional technological innovation. From the perspective of social network analysis, this article first analyzes the relevant literature on the impact of labor flow networks, regional technological innovation, and the characteristics of labor flow networks on regional technological innovation from a theoretical perspective, and combs out the relevant theoretical basis and proposes theoretical hypotheses;Secondly,it reveals the typical facts of labor flow network centrality, network structure holes, and regional technological innovation. Finally,by constructing panel data from 283 cities at or above the prefecture level from 2003 to 2020,this thesis empirically examines the impact of labor mobility network characteristics on regional technological innovation and its impact mechanism, and explores the heterogeneity of urban network characteristics in different locations, different city sizes, different innovation categories, different time periods, and different levels of human capital. The main research conclusions of this thesis are as follows:(1)The intensity of labor mobility links is characterized by uneven distribution in space, and the topological structure shows significant changes. The intensity of labor mobility links is becoming increasingly close, but the overall level is mainly weak. The attenuation effect of geographical distance is obvious, which is represented by Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration,Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration,Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration The multi-polarization characteristics of urban agglomeration in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the Pearl River Delta.(2)The evolution of the spatiotemporal pattern of the centrality of the labor flow network is characterized by uneven spatial distribution, which is characterized by an increasing trend of centrality from east to west;Network centrality has a significant positive correlation, and has strong spatial heterogeneity and regional agglomeration characteristics. The evolution of the spatial-temporal pattern of the structural hole of the labor flow network shows the characteristics that the structural hole in the central and western regions is larger than that in the eastern regions; The network structure hole has significant positive correlation, and has strong spatial heterogeneity and regional agglomeration characteristics.(3)From the analysis of the current situation of regional technological innovation,China’s regional technological innovation level is developing well, but it presents significant fluctuations and uneven regional distribution. There are significant differences in regional technological innovation levels among cities above the prefecture level, and the proportion of patent types with high innovation difficulties is relatively low. From the perspective of spatiotemporal analysis, the level of regional technological innovation shows a trend of continuous enhancement, showing a state of spatial uneven distribution. There is a significant positive correlation between regional technological innovation, and there is a strong spatial heterogeneity and regional agglomeration characteristics.(4)The centrality and structural hole of labor flow network promote the improvement of regional technological innovation level, which is still valid under overcoming the endogenous test and a series of robustness tests.According to the research of heterogeneity, from the perspective of urban location, the innovation effect of labor flow network centrality is obvious in the eastern and central regions, while the innovation effect of structural hole is obvious in the central, western and northeast regions; From the perspective of urban scale, the centrality of labor flow network and structural holes play a more important role in innovation in large cities; From the perspective of innovation category, the centrality of labor flow network plays a more important role in innovation in invention patents, while the structural hole plays a more important role in innovation in utility patents; From the perspective of time difference, the centrality and structural hole of labor flow network have more obvious innovation effect in the period 2009-2020;From the perspective of human capital level, the innovation role of labor flow network centrality is more obvious in the lower level of human capital, while the innovation role of structural hole is obvious in the higher level of human capital; The mechanism test results show that the characteristics of labor flow network will promote the regional technological innovation level through the two transmission mechanisms of innovative personnel and innovative capital.Through the analysis of threshold effect,it is concluded that there is a single threshold effect in the centrality and structural hole of labor flow network, and there is a nonlinear relationship between the structural hole of labor flow network and regional technological innovation. Finally, relevant policy suggestions are put forward in order to strengthen the labor flow links between cities above the prefectural level and play the role of labor flow in the development of regional technological innovation.
