Since the reform and opening up,with the rapid development of the economy and the remarkable increase in comprehensive national power,China’s achievements in agricultural development have been of global importance, supporting the agricultural needs of 22% of the world’s population with only 9% of the world’s arable land and 6%of the world’s water resources. The supply of agricultural products and the ability to guarantee food security have been significantly improved, breakthroughs have been made in agricultural infrastructure, and the application of science and technology in agriculture has tended to be comprehensive and systematic. On this basis, the focus of rural development has changed to consolidating the achievements of poverty eradication and promoting the revitalisation of the countryside. The previous rugged agricultural development model is obviously no longer applicable, and a smart agricultural industrial system has come into being.Since the introduction of the concept of smart agriculture,China has attached great importance to the development of smart agriculture, and has introduced various policies to help improve the industrial system of smart agriculture and promote the stable growth momentum of the agricultural industry. However,in the process of rapid development of agriculture, the production materials consumed in the process of agricultural production have brought harm to the ecological environment.Combined with the "double carbon" target established by China, the reform of low-carbon and green production methods is imminent, and the development of smart agriculture while ensuring ecological benefits has become an inevitable requirement. In this paper,we take 30 provinces and cities across China as research objects, and use data on agricultural value added, agricultural carbon absorption and agricultural carbon emissions to establish an index system for evaluating the production efficiency of smart agriculture in the context of "double carbon" from an input-output perspective. The results were then decomposed using the GML index, followed by a fixed-effects model to investigate the factors affecting the development level of smart agriculture.Through the analysis, this paper obtains the following conclusions:(1)The overall trend of China’s smart agriculture production efficiency shows a decline and then an increase during the period of 2010-2020;from the spatial dimension, the growth trend of China’s smart agriculture production efficiency gradually shifts from west to east during the period of 2012-2017;all regions except the central region have an obvious growth trend in 2020.(2)The decomposition of the GML index indicates that compared to technical efficiency, changes in technological progress have a greater impact on the nationwide production efficiency of smart agriculture, and both have similar trends of change.(3)Agricultural production efficiency, agricultural mechanisation density and industrialisation level can have a positive impact on the productivity of smart agriculture, while the level of local financial support for agriculture, crop damage and the proportion of urbanisation level have a negative impact on it.
