With the acceleration of the modernization process,the old urban communities with a long history and serious aging infrastructure have been unable to meet the needs of residents in pursuit of a better life.In addition,the number of old communities that need to be transformed in China is huge,involving many residents.It is highly valued by the party and the country and needs to be transformed urgently.The renovation of old communities is a livelihood project,which is closely related to residents.At the same time,the renovation of old communities also requires the active participation of residents.However,due to the lack of necessary public awareness,it is extremely difficult for residents to participate in the renovation of old communities.How to attract residents to participate in the transformation of old communities and efficiently complete the transformation of old communities has become a hot issue in academic circles.There are many studies on residents’ participation in the transformation of old communities,but there are few studies focusing on cultivating residents’ public awareness.Therefore,this study mainly discusses how social work and social organizations can cultivate residents’ public awareness with the help of public space transformation projects in old communities,and provide some experience for the governance of old urban communities.Under the guidance of social organism theory and public domain theory,this study adopts the action research method,taking J old community in Chengdu as an example,to explore how social workers and social organizations cultivate and construct residents’ public consciousness in the process of public space transformation of old urban communities,and make it sustainable.Based on the analysis of social work involved in the public space reconstruction project of urban old communities to cultivate residents’ public awareness,it is found that the complex and diverse problems of urban old communities and the lack of public awareness of residents are the’ fatal factors’ of governance difficulties in urban old communities;to mobilize residents to participate in the transformation of public space in the community and realize multi-governance is the key factor for the success of the public space transformation project in the old urban community.After the public awareness of residents is activated,social workers and social organizations also need to unite community workers,party members,residents’ self-government groups,owners’ committees and other multi-stakeholders to tap the public interest to establish a bond of interests between residents and communities,increase residents’ participation in public affairs,and form a community culture and democratic consultation mechanism to maintain the sustainability of residents’ public awareness.Through the discussion of social workers and social organizations with the help of the old community public space reconstruction project to cultivate residents’ public awareness,mobilize residents to actively participate in the community public space reconstruction,improve the living environment of the old community residents,improve the quality of life of residents.At the same time,residents’ public awareness and ability to participate in public affairs have also been exercised and improved in the practice of transforming the public space of the community,further providing experience for realizing the social governance goal of co-construction,co-governance and sharing and improving the refinement level of urban governance. |
