Objective:Rowing is a physically dominant endurance sport, and the physical fitness of rowers is the foundation, which plays an important role in guiding the performance of the competition. As the competition becomes more and more intense,it is not only a competition of mental quality and technology, but also a battle of physical ability, and the physical ability of rowers plays a decisive role in special performance. These factors affect the improvement of athletes’ performance, and it is urgent to improve the athletes’ physical shortcomings. To address this phenomenon, this study intends to develop a functional fitness training program for rowers in Hebei Province, and conduct an empirical study to provide a reference basis for future functional fitness training programs for young male athletes in Hebei Province. Methods:In this paper,a functional fitness training program for young male rowers in Hebei Province was developed and implemented through literature, expert interview, observation, experiment, and mathematical statistics.Eight young male rowers were subjected to a functional fitness training program three times a week for three months.Functional Movement Screening(FMS)was used to assess the physical function of the athletes and the fitness level of the athletes was evaluated using the "Basic Fitness Test Standard" issued by the State General Administration of Sports and the "Gold Medal Standard Model" of the Hebei Provincial Rowing Team.At the end of the experiment, the data related to FMS,fitness level, and special ability were analyzed by paired samples t-test,and the data obtained were expressed as mean ±standard deviation. When p<0.05,it was statistically significant.Results:(1)The FMS test results showed that the athletes’ scores of deep squat test, hurdle step test, straight lunge test, right shoulder joint,push-up test, and left trunk rotation stability increased(p<0.05)compared with the pre-experimental period, with increases of 25.00%,27.55%,29.41%,28.00%,34.74%,and 35.84%,respectively;left shoulder joint, left straight knee leg raise, right trunk rotation stability and total score increased(p<0.05)by 35.21%,35.37%,53.47% and 33.95%,respectively.(2)The results of physical fitness level test showed that the athletes’ scores of deep squat 1RM,30 m sprint run, seated forward bend and 3000 run test improved compared with those before the experiment(p<0.05),with increases of 2.97%,3.80%,28.68% and 3.48%,respectively.The scores of abdominal muscle endurance test, back muscle endurance test, and vertical vertical jump test increased compared with those before the experiment(p<0.05),and the increases were 24.41%,24.09%,and8.86%,respectively.(3)The results of the special ability test showed that the performance of 2000 m special dynamometer test improved compared with that before the experiment(p<0.05),with an increase of 1.12%.Conclusions:(1)This study developed a functional fitness program for young male rowers. The use of FMS corrective training in the basic phase promoted physical joint flexibility and stability, improved movement pattern quality, and reduced the risk of potential sports injuries.(2)After 12 weeks of functional fitness training, the core strength, explosive strength, flexibility, and speed ability test scores of eight Hebei youth rowers were significantly improved, but not significantly for enhancing maximal upper body strength.(3)The integration of functional fitness training into rowing physical training practice is feasible and can help improve the training effectiveness of rowers’ specific abilities.
