Passive Or Active: Behavioral Choices And Difficulties Of Daily Settlement

More than 40 years of reform and opening-up have brought the rapid change of social structure and social process.A large number of rural labor workers work into the city and become one of the important groups of our social transformation.Daily settlement work is part of China’s vast population of workers,who live on the fringes of cities and often go unnoticed,but deserve our attention as living individuals,especially in the current period of social transformation."Why daily settlement?" It is the core issue of this study.This paper takes Beijing Maju Bridge as the field research site,takes daily settlement as the research object,takes the individualization theory as the main entry point,and combines the labor process theory as the analysis perspective to understand the behavioral choice of migrant workers by analyzing the labor process and specific experience of daily settlement.In terms of research methods,through participatory observation,semi-structured interview and network ethnography,various and multi-dimensional research data are collected to deeply appreciate the production and life of daily knot workers,so as to show the most real state of current daily knot workers and analyze the reasons for their daily knot behavior choice.The research is carried out from the idea of "individual choice-labor system".Firstly,it analyzes the individual motivation of workers’ daily settlement under the background of individuation.According to the reasons why migrant workers choose daily settlement and the social life status presented,this study divides different groups.By showing how different types of daily settlement work reconstruct a relatively stable state under the unstable life style,it analyzes the contradictions and helplessness of daily settlement work from the three aspects of "active choice--ineffective mode--passive acceptance".They hate the "evil" of labor and yearn for a better life and work,but it is difficult to escape the fate of the day.Secondly,it analyzes the influence of labor system on the choice of daily settlement of ICBC in the factory.By describing the specific labor process,it presents the physical discipline and control faced by laborers in labor,which leads to their dissatisfaction with labor and choose daily settlement.In the face of labor resistance,capital further uses the daily settlement system to counter the control of daily settlement,forming a disembedded employment relationship,and finally it is difficult to escape the prison of daily settlement in the new daily settlement system.In addition,due to the complex and diverse groups of daily workers,it is not only limited to the production field of their labor process,but also analyzed from the life field outside the factory.Finally,under the comprehensive influence of the labor system,social structure and individual motivation,the author tries to explain the reason why the actors choose to enter an unstable work independently from two aspects: subjective individuation and objective structural restriction,and analyzes the individual consequences brought by the choice of daily work.The study found that day laborers came to Majumabashi from the countryside and kept making day laborers to meet their subsistence needs.They actively choose to do the day settlement,passively accept the labor system arrangement,in the small town of Majumbashi magic folding life.Individuals independently pursue a life style different from the traditional one,but inevitably rely on the labor system.They actively join or are forced to choose the daily settlement behavior.In the modern society with strong mobility,they still suffer from possible systemic risks.In a very contradictory state of autonomy.In the process of daily settlement labor,they are transplanted to "consent".Structural power and inescapable institutional dependence make it difficult for them to escape from the fate of continuous daily settlement.Under the macro background,their seemingly voluntary but actually passive choice of daily settlement is a passive practice of current urban life in which institutional arrangements cannot meet their survival expectations.
