The Influence Of Parental Control On Adolescents’ Tendency Of Internet Gaming Addiction And Its Educational Countermeasures

With the increasing popularity of the Internet and the continuous updating of Internet game technology,Internet gaming addiction among adolescents has become a serious problem endangering their physical and mental health,which has attracted attention from parents,schools and other sectors of society.Previous studies mostly focused on Internet addiction and its influence mechanism,but there were few on Internet gaming addiction,the most harmful subtype of Internet addiction,and its influence mechanism.Therefore,this study investigated the independent effects and influence mechanisms of parental behavior control and psychological control on teenagers’ Internet gaming addiction by surveying 885 teenagers with the Internet gaming addiction questionnaire,the parental control questionnaire,the parent-child cohesion questionnaire and the school connectedness questionnaire.The results showed that:(1)The demographic variables of gender,grade and place of origin all have a significant impact on the adolescent Internet gaming addiction;(2)Parental behavior control and psychological control have independent effects on adolescent Internet gaming addiction,with the former acting as a negative predictor and the latter serving as a positive predictor;(3)Parental behavioral control can negatively predict adolescent Internet gaming addiction through both the independent and chain mediating roles of the parent-child relationship and school connectedness;(4)Parental psychological control can positively predict adolescent Internet gaming addiction through the independent mediating role of the parent-child relationship and the chain mediating role of the parent-child relationship and school connectedness.As revealed by the results,strengthening parental behavior control,reducing psychological control,establishing a good parent-child relationship,and improving adolescent-school connectedness are all conducive to reducing the risk of Internet gaming addiction.This study enriches the theoretical research on Internet gaming addiction and its influence mechanism,as well as provides a practical reference for parents and schools to prevent and intervene with adolescents’ Internet gaming addiction.
