| Since China began its foreign trade, with the increasingly refined international division of labor system and the increasingly perfect opening of intermediate goods trade, the issue of wage gap in China has also become an undeniable issue.Whether it is skilled or unskilled workers, skilled or unskilled workers,high-tech industries or lowtech industries, scholars have analyzed and found that the wage gap and tariff reduction among industries in China have had different impacts. From the perspective of trade theory, there is no consensus on whether the reduction of intermediate goods tariffs will expand or narrow the income gap between industries. It is necessary to include factors such as trade openness, technological progress, and trade liberalization brought about by the reduction of intermediate goods tariffs in the joint impact analysis. This article uses data from the manufacturing industry from 2012 to 2021 for impact analysis. The analysis results are as follows: firstly,a decrease in the import tariff rate of intermediate goods in the manufacturing industry will narrow the wage gap between high-tech and low-tech industries in China.High and low tech industries are distinguished based on the intensity of research and experimental development(R&D)investment;Secondly, the perspectives represented by the control variables selected in this article, such as trade openness and technological progress, will widen the wage gap between high and low tech industries in the manufacturing industry, while trade liberalization will narrow the wage gap between the two;Thirdly, the robustness test of the model shows that the fitting of all relevant variables in the model is consistent with the reality, and the results are significant;Fourthly,in the heterogeneity analysis,it was found that the larger the industry size in the manufacturing industry, the more significant the impact of the decrease in import tariffs on intermediate goods on the wage gap.Among them,small-scale industries do not even have significance in the model, but other control variables such as import and export trade volume and the significance of technology research and development also become more significant with the expansion of scale industries. Finally, this article conducts theoretical and empirical research on the reduction of tariffs on intermediate goods in the manufacturing industry and the wage gap, which not only demonstrates the purpose and significance of implementing tariff reduction measures in China, but also plays a role in improving the high and low technology wage gap in China’s manufacturing industry from the perspective of tariff reduction.Based on the research results, relevant policy recommendations can be formulated, such as maintaining the current tariff level and increasing tax management for high-income groups,To achieve the goal of rationalizing income distribution among various industries, promoting benign competition among industries, improving policy formulation in international trade, enhancing China’s international status, and increasing China’s participation in the global value chain. |
